You can use it for that as well, yes. It's basically an A/V device with reverse camera function.
When I wire these in, it gets triggered when you go into reverse as long as you are on the satnav screen.
You can then add three more devices such as a blackvue forward camera, a DVD player or a digital tv/dab/multimedia unit. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

I'll stand by to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure the gvif still puts audio out via the aux input in the car.Mine does anyway maybe it's been updated?if you want iPhone music just get a Bluetooth receiver with a 3.5mm out,£20 off eBay will see it done.

Bodsy,

Out of interest how much do you charge to fit a reversing cam GVIF?

I have one already, it just needs plumbing in.

It was going to be my xmas project, but after the ribbing I got from my LED install I'm not so confident now!

PLus I might be interested in a gearbox/transfer box reset too Thumbs Up RRS gone

Mr Fixit, You are correct in that the sound is via AUX, but not via a cable showing to the Aux In, I wire it directly to the loom to minimise wires being visible.
you do then need a cut down 3.5mm jack as the LR has a cutout switch to stop hiss in that Aux input. But I supply that when I install as it's cut off the phono cable I use. Thumbs Up

AWD Man, I'll drop you a PM.

Hi guys I am after a bit of help with gvif install all gone ok thanks to the rrs guide (thanks guys) problem is when using the override switch (primarily for eyeing up talent in car behind at traffic lights) the screen goes blank, if reverse is selected the picture appears, any help would be much appreciated.
Great guide by the way... New owner very pleased with it......

Bodsy may correct me - but on mine you have to disconnect the cable from the unit and put it into another av connection on the GVIF unit - I did look at purchasing a splitter but never got round to it Sad it's basically 1 or the other you can't have both - please please somebody tell me different Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

This is how I have wired up my camera.

When reverse selected the screen/rearview camera come up automatically.
When not in reverse I can use the switch and same thing happens

Use only one AV in(the reverse camera one)

Daiboy,
Did you power the camera from the reverse light + or from another ign switched live?
You should do it via ign switched live.
You then need a video splitter cable to get the feed to show on a/v1 as well as reverse mode. Thumbs Up

Fly dive, what's the point of the diode on reverse light? It's only live when in reverse in that config anyway. Bodsys Brake Bible

In my configuration you do not need a splitter and you do not use an extra AV input, only the reverse camera one.

The camera is powered by the reverse light when in reverse or by the switch from ignition switched power when not in reverse.

The diode is there to avoid the reverse light coming on when using the switch to power the camera.

As I said with this set up the screen switches automatically to reverse camera(and the camera is powered) when selecting reverse or using the switch, no need for the remote. Also you keep all the AV input available. '08 RRS TDV8
