Do they make any claim/guarantee as to the effectiveness of the misfuel device? If not, you'd probably be laughed at on that one, sadly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The misfuel device activates by the insertion of the petrol nozzle, and is immediate, therefore NO fuel should get in, why it would trip after a few litres is cause for concern.

LR would probably argue that the nozzle wasn't inserted properly.

I would go in guns blazing, don't mess about, they have fitted a misfuel device and actively promote it as a feature, somehow it failed, a possible user error would still make the device unfit for purpose and therefore, I would argue that by fitting such a device (that may not work) actually makes misfuel more of a problem as it could leave you with a false sence of security and more relaxed about getting it wrong.

Be absolutely clear in your intentions, that

A: you want any damage fixed foc
B: a record to show that any possible issues down the line associated with his are fixed foc
C: a full demonstration of the device operating and and potential failure issues
D: if necessary removal of the device

Put all this in writing to the service manager, tell him what you want and give it him in writing, clearly stating that any charges brought forward as a result of the devices failure will result in action to recover that loss, with potential media coverage so other uses don't suffer the same fate.

Ps this was your mistake, however a device fitted to the car is supposed to stop it, and it didn't. If you took some fog and put it in a jar, would it be missed.

Just checked the handbook and it says quote "The diesel misfuel protection device only reduces the risk of filling with the incorrect fuel."
Also says that its the drivers responsibility to fill with the correct fuel.
I think that they have covered themselves pretty well.

Hi all, having had all night to think about it, I can't help wondering, why when the miss fuel device activated, neither the pump attendant or myself were able to reset it when the instructions make it appear so simple . Between us we did manage to break one of the teeth off the tool, although this didn't fall in the tank.
Unfortunately it wasn't LRA who attended, just a local recovery firm and he didn't have a clue about how to reset the device, which was fair enough.
Has anyone else used the rest tool with success?
