Air Conditioning troubleshooting - Main Dealer/Specialist ?

The aircon in my 2005 RRS is not particularly effective, I've had it recharged to no avail. so I guess it needs a good looking over.

Should I have a LR main dealer look into it, or would a specialist air conditioning place be a better bet ?

From my experience, the person I bought it from allegedly had it regassed between us seeing it first and purchasing it. We took his word for it and didn't test the AC until a few days later, only to find it warm.

Then took it to Kwik-Fit (possibly not best idea), but they found it was pretty much empty (now wondering if it was refilled at all prior to purchase), refilled it and it made absolutely no difference, so between that and them taking longer than it should have, they let me drive away without leaving a penny behind (they have a policy apparently where you pay nothing if they can't drop your AC temps by 10deg or more).

So either KwikFit didn't do it right (it was a busy sat morning, everyone doing three jobs at once), or there's something wrong with it.

Somehow I'd rather entrust it to someone who deals in AC day in day out, rather than a LR mechanic who does just about everything else.

Mr Frog don't mess about with amateurs go to a professional http://www.vanchilla.co.uk/ Speak to John, he does all our fridge vans and has done an excellent job for 20 years. If the franchise dealers get stuck with a problem car they give it to him to sort out. Good luck.

When was the pollen filter last changed? Makes a massive difference to the functioning of the aircon. Mine was getting worse and worse until they changed the filter at a service and then it was like new again. Might not be your problem of course but worth checking.

Pollen filter was changed at last service two weeks ago.

Sorted, drove there this afternoon after a short phone call ! Took a little while to figure it out, but John's a true professional and even when I was happy all was in order, he was still looking and scratching his head to make sure we hadn't run to early conclusions.

Seems there may have been a mix of gases in the air-con and the various people who looked at it weren't professional enough to admit to their mistakes or know what could be wrong. The air-con wasn't cold when we first looked at the car, asked for it to be regassed which we were told was done, but didn't check before driving off. Following day, before heading up north on a long trip, I popped into Kwik Fit for a recharge but that made no difference, and John reckons this may be where they mixed gasses and brushed the no-better air-con performance as an expensive problem with the compressor.

Can't recommend John enough, many many thanks for the pointer. Didn't cost all that much in the end either. I'll definitely go back to him if I ever need anything air-con related.
