I thought a small quantity was ok as long as you fill up with diesel on top of it??

4 litre won't make much difference if you fill the tank with diesel to dilute it.

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. It has now been left at the dealers to await their report., which will be expensive. I did try to top up with diesel but couldn't get the yellow tool to reset the device, also had to start the engine to get the gear selector to pop up to engage neutral to get it onto low loader. Still, I won't do it again.

Regards to all & thanks for advice.

Im sure you dont have to start it to be able to get it out of park and you certainly dont need to to remove the handbrake,

Im very surprised you actually got any fuel in - it should stop you straight away not ideal, but 3l on a 70 or 80l tank is so low, i would have filled it with diesel driven it 50 miles and refilled it then 100 refilled it then 150 and refilled it (adding more dilution) Mike

The dealers will almost certainly say you have to replace Hoff, fuel lines, maybe even injectors and of course if you don't it will void the warranty....

Personally I'd have filled it up with diesel and carried on. Bodsys Brake Bible

It's been done dozens of times, keep topping up with diesel, it will not be problem, always add some 2 stroke oil if it makes you feel better Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

4L in an 80+L tank? I'd have brimmed it with diesel and carried on. That amount won't reduce the lubricating ability of the fuel (which is the problem if petrol is used in a modern common rail diesel as the high pressure pump and injectors need the fuel to act as a lubricant as I understand it) to the level that damage would occur. And even if it did slightly increase the long term chance of a fuel pump or injector failure, how could LR prove a misfuel of that small amount 2 or 3 years down the road?

My old Mk4 Golf 150PD TDi had about 6-8 litres of petrol put in it by SWMBO. I just told her to brim it with diesel and not worry. No problems ensued. When she, on another occasion, filled the tank with petrol and drove off until the thing died on her, a pump out and refill sorted it out. Not a common rail engine though so not a problem. Our Skoda has the same (albeit lower power) engine in it so I'm not too worried about her doing it again to that. I'd be more concerned about a full tank of petrol in the RRS, of course, but 3 or 4 litres? Nah, just brim it with diesel and go. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi, bodsy, that would have been my first choice, but neither me or the pump attendant could reset the miss fuel device, so
my choice was a bit limited, but it's in the dealer now,, & I'll post here with the result.
Thanks to all for your assistance, it's much appreciated.

Yeah but whats been suggested to be replaced may require you to ring your insurance company!...its not going to be cheap.

I might be tempted to have a word (subject to the bill) with LR as their miss fuel device failed to safeguard against miss fueling Mike
