2012 sport accelerator issues, anyone help?

Hi,
New member, first post.

I traded in a 3.6 tdv8 sport in October for the new 8 speed sdv6 2012. I had an issue with it hunting for gears from the start, was advised by sale man to drive it harder. At one point with less than 1000 miles on the car, on a steep s bend hill it couldn't find a gear and virtually rolled backwards. I phoned up, drive it harder, was the answer.

Come to the beginning of July, tried to overtake a tractor at 20 miles an hour up a hill , pulled out , no power (also no fault showing on dash), the car behind me closed the gap and I couldn't get back into my lane!. It happened a dozen or so times on that journey. Called Land Rover assistannce and it was showing a fault when he connected it to his computer PU121-86 (it could be PO, can't read his writing). It also happened with him sitting next to me. He said as I press the accelerator the engine is going to idle.

Land Rover replaced the accelerator (it has two sensors to detect what power you need, one is supposed to act as a backup, in case the other fails).

Yesterday the problem is back, I had my kids in the car, went to pull out of a junction, and no power! It happened several times on the journey home, pretty scary stuff. It has done 5000 miles now.

Anyone had or heard of anything similar? I'm thinking of asking for my money back now, it is too risky to take on a journey. Long suffering Land Rover owner

I have had this problem on my10 and a sdv6 loaner Sad

Had software update, 2 brake switch and calibration before finally seems sorted Confused

I have discovered fault can be caused by brushing brake pedal while pressing accelerater so need to be more careful when moving foot from brake to accelerater Thumbs Up

Few of us have had this in the early days of MY12 ownership, I've put it down to the system learning the driving 'style' as mines not done it in the last 6 months.

Yours does seem a little extreme though Shocked , I'd be inclined to find a dealer that has a little more interest in resolving your issue though. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Suggestion, if it's hunting for a gear override it and hit the accelerater? Mike

At nearly £60k with extras, and my third sport, and my fifth Land Rover product I'm a little tired of giving them the benefit of the doubt!

First 2.7 sport needed new bushes on a regular basis.

Second 3.6 V8 sport needed a new turbo at 25k miles.

This 2012 sport is dangerous.

My Discovery TD5 blew a turbo under a 1000 miles.

My freelander 57 plate was faultless though! Just a little slow! Long suffering Land Rover owner

My 2013my doesn't do this...so it could be just a one off?

Im not sure how much you know about the setup. The car actively learns your driving style and can learn your normal driving, making it slower to do something new...that isn't to say there isn't a fault...but if it was me I would do what I suggested...it has paddles for a reason, click down then put your foot down, it will override auto and force it to do what you want...it will also start to learn that style if you do it enough.

Also have you tried putting into sport first before the manoeuvre? Mike

A bulletin was issued last year concerning "Vehicle Hesitation When Accelerating From Low Speed" that affected diesel vehicles from VIN AA215623 onwards. Apparently customers complained of "Reduced engine performance with throttle demand at low vehicle speeds".

The cause was the stop lamp switch was incorrectly adjusted and/or the brake booster had free play. Dealers were advised to:

1. Carry out brake pedal position switch adjustment;
2. Check for brake booster free play and tighten if required.

Thanks for the replies boys, very helpful.

The fact that it produces a fault code on the diagnostic software proves it sees a fault, and one would think Land Rover would know how to deal with this! Long suffering Land Rover owner

strikes me as more of a fault rather than the 'learning' thingy (which is essentially the gearbox), given how severe it is Thumbs Up ============

I wouldn't disagree...but if the sensors were replaced it's a quick way to see...plus it will override any learning issues Mike

Thanks Boys, the Land Rover technician came today. It was showing the same fault, so he changed the pedal with his Discovery one (two weeks old) and it seems to have worked. It did do it once, but not as severe, and the software couldn't pick it up.

I took it for another drive and got it to do it once going up a hill, to the point that it was rolling backwards, but only the one time. Yesterday it did it a dozen times or more.

I will drive it all week and see how it goes. The only worry is that it can leave you in a very dangerous position on the road! Long suffering Land Rover owner

Sounds as if you have a "Friday afternoon build" car?

Take it back to the dealers and demand that they fix the bloody thing!
