Only issue we had was a rattling from the front end over rough roads. Fixed under warranty with new bushes / mass dampers.

I have found if you take out a warranty nothing will go wrong and if you don't it sure as hell will and it will be expensive

I have the Approved Warranty. So far it has paid out for a new alternator, a new starter motor, new dynamic response rear anti roll bar, 4 new anti roll bar bushes. It didn't pay out for a non-functioning rear window de-mister claiming, bizarrely, that it's "glass" and therefore not covered. The dealer charged me £100 for the privilage of confirming that it's broken. Nice.

I also think that it comes with LR Assistance for home and abroad so that's a saving of about £150ish with the likes of the Aa and Greenflag etc. |

You have to pay extra to get Assistance. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Approved comes with assistance, select doesn't. I opted for approved as assistance also guarantees a replacement car if yours can't be fixed.

Land rover approved all the way, I've used mine when compressor packed up, had tech out looking at car within 90 minutes of calling in fault, had replacement car two hours after that, transporter picked up car at 7.30 am next morning.

Approved does not come with Assistance unless you pay extra.. From my warranty renewal form:

^^ +1. You have to pay an extra £150 on top of Approved or Select to get LR Assistance. I might be wrong here but I think top level AA or RAC cover including Europe (to make it equivalent of LR Assist) costs well over £150. As far as warranty is concerned, my RRS is almost 3 years of age and I have been exploring my options for the last few weeks. Running it without a warranty was never one of the options, having read various horror stories here. I had bought Warranty Direct's "Performance & Prestige Luxury Care" mainly for their cover of "failure due to wear and tear" which is a big plus over LR Approved. Initial quote for franchised dealer labour rates was £875 lump sum for the year and didn't include exhaust & emissions (EGR valves etc.) and in-car entertainment (SatNav, stereo etc.). A few phone calls later, £675 (4 interest-free payments) was agreed and covered the previously excluded items listed above. I know others have achieved better discounts from them but my haggling skills are very limited so I was happy. However, after thinking even more, I cancelled that within the cooling off period and will soon be getting the more expensive LR Approved (even though wear & tear is excluded) for these reasons:
2. I found a clause in WD T&Cs that repeat repairs due to poor workmanship and/or faulty parts is not covered. So if I discover that the car isn't fully fixed or a new problem has been introduced (as was the case with one of my warranty repairs), they are entitled to decline payment for subsequent repairs. 3. You have to pay from your own pocket and then claim from WD. 4. The hire car limit with WD was only £50 a day and hotel expense was capped at a total of £250. Not sure if I can get a decent car for £50/day at short notice. LR Approved doesn't mention any limits for these. 5. It's not too much but WD charge a £50 excess per claim. 6. The cover for failures identified during MOT was detailed quite well in the LR Approved policy document, compared to WD policy which didn't have a lot of details on this topic. 7. My local LR dealer has a good reputation for accepting reasonable warranty repairs without hassle. I have experienced this first hand with the 3-year warranty and have read others' experiences with LR extended warranty too 8. My car hasn't got a particularly high number on the odometer and has been serviced/inspected regularly so hoping there won't be (m)any expensive repairs due to wear & tear at least during the year ahead. Could be wishful thinking though 9. If I go for WD now and let LR warranty expire, then switch to LR Approved next year due to any bad experiences, the current rate is £240 + VAT for inspection before they accept it for LR Approved Warranty. If I switch from LR Approved to Warranty Direct, there is not such cost. 10. WD only includes limited recovery and unfortunately you can't get LR Assistance without LR extended warranty. So you have to get AA/RAC breakdown cover on top. Although LR Assist is now provided by the AA, I thought the top level AA cover (if bought directly rather than through LR) was slightly less comprehensive than LR Assistance. To me LR Approved provides greater peace of mind. If something is NOT wear & tear, hopefully I will not have to worry about the claim being accepted. Whereas with WD I would be anxious until I get paid. I do think LR Select is poor though and if I still have the car until 5 years old/75k miles, I will take my chances and go the Warranty Direct/Warranty Wise route - no brainer. Apologies for the lengthy post which doesn't even include any personal experiences with LR Extended Warranty. But I thought sharing what went through my mind before coming to a decision might help wilburn in some way. Also, if someone points out something wrong in my understanding, I might benefit from the correction before buying LR Approved while I still have a week left Last edited by fkarim on Mon Jul 23 2012 2:29am. Assuming I still own my RRS when it runs out of factory warranty, I wouldn't consider owning one without is warranty, they're expensive beasts WHEN things go wrong ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I stand corrected as I can't remember the exact details on the renewal letter.
