2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

if memory serves, LR extended paid out:

£542 for a new starter motor (inc VAT and fitting)
£270 for a new intermediate shaft on the steering column (inc VAT and fitting)
£272 for a new thermostat
£730 for an entire new upper tailgate glass and fitting

each time the work was done without delay, without upfront payment and, ex the glass, without an inspection. Then when I sold the car the balance of the warranty transferred to the new owner.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up x 10 for LR extended ============
2010 TDV8 HSE - ooo laa laaaaaaaaa
2007 TDV8 HSE - superb car and very reliable
============
2012 - dearly departed, sadly missed.. to return in late 2013 with a new TDV8!

I believe the Land Rover warranties do not include wear and tear.

However, I see RRSTDV8 claimed for a new alternator under warranty.

I would have assumed a failed alternator would come under wear and tear?

Also, is replacing an alternator an body off job?

I am trying to suss out what is likely to fail over the next year or two and what cost to replace vs would it be covered under warranty.

it excludes wear and tear in the sense of brake pads/discs

premature failure of components is different to wear and tear. An alternator should be good for more than xx miles (I don't know what mileage RRSTDV8's was?) but my claims were all before 50,000 miles:

£542 for a new starter motor (inc VAT and fitting)
£270 for a new intermediate shaft on the steering column (inc VAT and fitting)
£272 for a new thermostat
£730 for an entire new upper tailgate glass and fitting

arguably all had failed through 'wear', but the wear rate was excessive/the failure point premature

My alternator failed at about 53k miles. Not sure exactly but can check the paperwork if it's important.

The starter started playing up at 57.5k miles and has just been replaced under LR warranty.

All four anti-roll bar bushes have been replaced under warranty too and one might argue that they would only fail due to "wear". The rear anti roll bar was also replaced but that was because it started leaking which is a straight forward component failure I suppose.

The OS headlight has decided to stick in full down position now. I'm hoping this will also be covered by the warranty or I shall have to try the self-fix hereabouts that involves cleaning the solenoid.

The car has just hit 58k miles. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks for info Smile

Is it just the turbo's that need the body taking off to replace them or does the body need to come off for other items i.e. alternator?

I am thinking if the body needs to come off then the overall bill to fix including labour will be more than the £3,000 maximum amount per claim of the select extended warranty so it would be best to opt for the Approved Extended warranty.

The rear anti-roll bar replacement involved the body being lifted. Total bill for that was about £1400 I think. And the bar is about £800 to buy. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

the official LR extension didn't used to have a claim limit on it - has that changed? Question ============

LR Approved is "no limit" (up to value of vehicle)

LR Select is £3000 + VAT per claim up to total limit of value of vehicle

I note that the brochure talks about the limit being "up to the purchase price of the vehicle" but the paperwork gives the value of the vehicle as the limit. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Hi,

I am looking to go for the Land Rover Approved warranty however does anyone know if it is ok to have the vehicle serviced at a non land rover dealer?

We use a local Renault dealer for MOT's but they do work / servicing on all vehicles

http://dealer.renault.co.uk/g-blackhurst-sons/

If I had it serviced here would the warranty be ok?

All I can read from Land Rover is:

Warranty exclusions

The Vehicle warranty does not cover items that are subject to adjustment or replacement during normal service or maintenance operations. In addition, Land Rover is not responsible for any repair or replacement that is required as a direct result of:

- Normal wear and tear

- Failure to properly maintain the vehicle in accordance with Land Rover's maintenance schedules and service instructions.

The EU block exemption rules prevent LR requiring servicing to be carried out only by LR. You do need to use a garage that follows LR's servicing requirements however (mileage/time limits, methods of servicing etc.). You probably also need to use LR parts. OEM-quality parts should be ok but might allow the warranty company to worm out of paying... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

glad to see the consensus is to stick with LR Warranty, I got quotes from both of the main glossy 3rd party providers and neither was much of a saving so I got the LR one anyway.
That said mine was 1095 including LR Assist - that is still 500 quid more than my 997 Porsche Carrera S - LR must have a lot of expensive things go wrong historically - however good they may be now. Appreciate it is 4WD and complex but it is still a massive difference! Would have thought the porker would be more for sure - it's dismal off road though............ MY2010 RRS 5.0 S/C Santorini Black, 5 Spoke Diamond Turned Alloys, Privacy, Logic7, iPod, Cameras

This is really useful for me as I approach the 3 year mark and am wondering whether to

(a) Sell the car and buy a new one with 3 year warrenty (although, it should be said it would be a less expensive and not as nice car); or

(b) Extend the warranty.

Wear and tear I can live with, my biggest worry is the exclusion on the entertainment system. If that fails it sounds bloody expensive. Any views on this? Has anyone had one fail within (say) 60,000 miles?

I extended my warranty with Land Rover when the initial three year warranty ran out.

I had some suspension issues a few months back.

The garage had to wait for an engineers inspection and approval before the work could be carried out.

This delayed the fix to weeks rather than days as the engineer only comes out on certain days.

I was surprised as I though this was not necessary with a LR warranty. 2009 3.6 TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
