New RRS...are they all this bad?

Hello! I am new to this site and thought I would share my experience of buying a new RRS.

Upon delivery my new car had the following faults;

Tailgate did not open.
Tailgate badge on wonky.
Steering pulls to the left.
Touch screen not working correctly.
Glove box lid colour not the same as the rest of the dash.

Is this normal for Land Rover? Strangely my dealer seems to think it is, which is really worrying!

I suspect I will not be a Range Rover owner for very long!

Thanks,

Yup, Clarkson was right, the people that design and build Land Rovers have a 'that'll do' attitude second to none, and their quality control people must be half asleep Rolling Eyes Premium brand ? (my @rse).... Found this out when I bought my D3 new 6 1/2 yrs ago. Mine had several defects in the paint, including what looked like a 'thumb print', dealer was also unsurprised. Be persistant and get things rectified to your satisfaction, or reject vehicle if you're not happy, (you wouldn't be the first). Steering alignment seems to be a common one, other issues sound like you've got a proper 'Friday afternoon' car Shocked Laughing

I 'lurked' on this site for a while before I got mine and was a little apprehensive of picking up my £60k car, but I have to say, it was spot on. can't help but think that most, if not all, of those issues should have been sorted by the dealer before you even set foot in the car, Idsay they'd been a bit lazy too.

I'd be interested to hear from James @ LPR how many problems they resolve when they are PDI'ing their cars. I only say that as they seem to have a good success rate and wonder if it's due to them being an additional layer of checking. Confused

If dealers pick up these issues before delivery, they could change the perception of LR fairly quickly, albeit they couldn't do anything about when the car decides to leave you at the side of th road Laughing ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Not normal and none of those should have got to you as a customer

For all the issues and comments people have about LR and build quality (mostly rubbish actually)...the simple fact remains that the dealer PDI is the last quality control check, so chances are the dealer is the ultimate lazy one...and cant be bother to fix it therefore saying they are all like it Mike

I can help you with the glovebox lid issue I had the same problem.
Basically I was told it was a different vendor to the rest of the dash.
I had to wait about 2 months to get a colour match I was happy with so just persevere and just don't accept it until the colour is OK. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Interesting replies.....thanks everyone!

Hopefully it all gets sorted eventually, but it's taken the edge of buying this pretty expensive car and it's started to feel like I got a new car and new hobby at the same time.

All this would be more tolerable, if the dealer was;

Knowledgeable, Polite, Helpful, Interested....unfortunately they are the opposite of all these things.

Chris P, how did you get the glove box issue resolved in the end? The dealer did order a glove box lid, but that one was no good either. I got the line about it being a different vendor too....as if that made it OK!

Cheers,

I said they could swap it as many times as they liked until the color matched, not sure how they did it but 1st attempt worked OK.
Just not sure how it got through QC and PDI I guess they just hope the customer either doesn't notice or doesnt care. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

I bought both mine from a local dealer because on both occasions they were considerably cheaper than all the others I contacted.
My other local dealer failed to even offer a quote on both occasions their sales team are appalling but Service Manager and his team are excellent . MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

England 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Luxury Orkney Grey

Through the years I've had trouble with brand new motors, Rolling with laughter things missing, faulty etc, the best way to handle this is to demand a pre-inspection when the car arrives at the garage, they look at you a bit strange and make up excuses for you not to, but I insist. Since then I've never had any thing seriously wrong.
Them knowing you have insisted on a pre-inspection gets any problems solved before you arrive. Thumbs Up MY13 Range Rover Sport HSE Luxury

I purchased the car from a dealer in Halifax, which is over a 100 miles from me. I went to them because they were by far the best deal. I am trying to deal with the local dealer for the problems, to save me from having to keep going to Halifax.

All very difficult, but i'm going to try another dealer now.

I got banned from BMW show rooms for 'expressing' my anger at the quality of the car I bought, it failed more times than an impotent porn star.

Prestige makes seem to suffer from a 'sold it so Censored it attitude'. Wrong really.

This doesn't sound good does it! Shocked

I'm picking my new RRS up in September (and i emphasise picking it up as they have said they'll deliver to my home/work) as i want to make sure that everything is okay with the vehicle before i hand over my hard earnt....

What would be the recommendations of everyone before i collect it?

Should i be saying to the dealer i want to test drive it before i pay?

Should i be phoning the dealer up beforehand & give them a hard time about the vehicle must be 100%?

It seems a bit odd that buying a new car shouldn't be a 100% experience, but reading the post above it's clearly not that way with a RRS Shocked
