Further to the above post, battery lamp is still on. Tested battery voltage today, the voltage virtually remained constant at 13.5 Volts with engine running, despite the main beam, heated seats and radio all on!

Sounds like faulty diodes on the alternator, this could spell the beginning of the end for the alternator. |

This happened to me earlier this year, exactly as you have said, then on the way to LR I got a bacon like smell and the voltage dropped . Luckily I made it to the dealership. Diagnosis was alternator foo@ed.

Thanks for that gents, how long was the light on for Sizzle before it gave up? I'm booked in a LR specialist on Monday to get a new throttle pedal (engine system fault - brake & throttle pedal incompatable positions).

Hi Smoftah, mine kept charging for maybe a couple of hundred miles tops. Then I noticed the CD volume wouldn't increase and I was getting a message - something like "low power mode".

I had my alternator changed last year at the main dealer I was recovered in to . The Land Rover SRO time is 2.20hrs on a Range Rover Sport TdV8. There is also an SRO to test the Alternator which is 0.20hrs. So should be nowhere near 6 hours! Cheers, Mark |

£711 Total. One problem just seems to lead to another though. The alternator is now ok, but because they removed the negative lead off the battery, the aftermarket in dash TV has now stopped working!

Just to let you know, when my alternator was replaced, the "Landrover specialist" I took the car to, charged £711 to supply and fit a replacement (warranty partially covered that). The reason for this extortionate amount was that the front of the car needed removing to complete the job - bumper, radiator etc. I've since found a much more knowledgeable local landrover specialist who assures me the alternator can be accessed from inside the engine bay by removing a few pipes/boxes. He would have charged only £100 labour + the alternator! |

I've just pulled off the alternator on a 2008 td v8 3.6 today. If someone rekons they can pull the alt via the engine bay they are dreaming. took me ~ 3.5 hrs on the flat, a hoist would've been 2.5 |
