Sag, do you get lots of black smoke?

I do, but not every time. Only on start-up and maybe once every 3/4 times. Same with the power issue. It's very intermittent. LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

Sounds like you have a EGR valve or valves sticking intermittently Wink

You guys all seem very knowledgeable on this issue which is great news for me.

My question is: Do I mention EGR valves to LR when I take it in tomorrow? Or leave them to diagnose the problem by me just telling them the symptoms? LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

I'd see what they come up with, then if EGR valves isn't one of the things, give them a steer in that direction Smile ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Sag, the first thing the dealer will do is plug in his magic box to your ecu and that will give him any fault codes that are recorded, by the sounds of it they might be a few, then go from there, as said above give them a nudge towards the egr valves if you have to. Thumbs Up

I knew I should have bought another Q7 Big Cry lol

Right so it went to LR yesterday and as you guys expected the diagnostic bought up a fault with the EGR valves.
All good I thought, was told it was a relatively easy fix and would have the car back in no time.......

Not to be however! LR Leicester is Sturgess and I bought it from a LR Bury which is Stratstone. Sturgess could not find any Extended Warranty on the vehicle so would only start looking at it once Stratstone had agreed to foot the bill......they confirmed the car had extended warranty but they hand't completed the paperwork! So half the day was wasted there.

It gets better though....this morning I get a call from Sturgess. LR have phoned them and want to send an Engineer (After the bank holiday) to asses the EGR failure as "it's not very common and they want to investigate further"

Sturgess have been great to be fair and as they know I struggle getting around they are collecting and dropping off the car so I am not put out my way but what a ballache! I am due to drive it to Switzerland in a weeks time Confused LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

So where have the L/R engineers been hiding for the last few years then Shocked another planet Whistle They really need to speak to someone at HQ who knows what they are on about and not the apprentice. Glad the dealer is looking after you though, Thumbs Up

It's crazy because as a 2006 car you could blank the egr's off and be running fine in no time. RRS gone

Hi guys Thumbs Up

Trip to Switzerland went A-Ok with only a few RRS glitches.

Main issue however...EGR's blanked, throttle response improved no end BUT it's chugging out black smoke like a chimney anytime I put my foot down. On a flat road at steady revs it's ok but try to overtake or go up a hill, once the box drops a gear and revs pick up it throws the black stuff out the back. Rear of my car is caked in the stuff. Very embarrassing Big Cry

Putting the pipes back on and sending it back to LR with a list as long as my arm for them to put right and not having it back until all the issues are sorted.

Really want to get on with the RRS and give it a fair shot but can see myself back in a Q7 by the end of the year

Hope all is well Very Happy LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

Glad the trip went OK and the RRS didn't leave you stranded anywhere sag.
I make you right, give it back to LR and await them to return it in a fit state, hopefully they can sort things for you Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Car is back in at LR today!

1. EGR's being replaced
2. Checking heavy smoke problem
3. Service indicator not re-set following "service" at Stratstones
4. Sorting some loose door trims
5. Sorting dodgy fuel cap
6. Sorting ill-fitting wipers & floor mats (Original fixings are bent or crooked so new parts don't fit properly)

An assessor is coming in to check what can be done under Warranty and LR Leicester will put a claim in at LR Bury for anything that isn't covered.

Looking forward to getting it back and enjoying it although seriously tempted to pull the trigger on a 2010 RRS or Q7 too! LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.
