New 2012 boot not very reliable

Hi Guys

I have a 3 week old 2012 RRS

So far love the car, the only niggle is the auto opening boot. Half the time when i press the button it unlocks but does not auto open. If i press again it will then fully open.

Does anyone else have a problem - to be fair to Land Rover I have not given them a chance to look at it, far too busy Smile

Regards

Not on mine..........

May be worth calibrating it to see if it helps. Open the boot, pull it down manually a couple of inches and pres and hold the close button until it beeps. Then press close to shut it. Repeat the process but push up manually to full height then hold button until it beeps to set at full height again.

If it still doesn't work then it sounds like the solenoid in the lock is fine however there is no signal going to the motor.

Hi Jon
I had exactly the same problem with mine when I first had it, I was told it was a faulty switch that land rover know about but mine was an early one so I would have thought that yours would have been sorted before leaving the factory.Took it back twice before the finally found out what it was, turns out that someone on the production line had 'forgotten' to tighten the hinge bolts properly. It's fine now, opens and closes a treat and I still love the way it works, just a shame you can't close it with the remote. 12MY RRS Orkney Grey HSE Lux

I don't know why LR made the boot a 1 piece unit..... Much prefer the split tailgate MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have tried re-setting and its still hit and miss if it opens. Will drop it back to the dealer and ask for my nuts to be tightened Embarassed

I also agree that the one piece tailgate is the worst feature on the new model.

On my 2011, I like the fact that when you are really packing the boot up full with stuff (which you inevitably do with 2 young kids on a long trip or holiday), then you can close the boot when it is quite full, then open the top tailgate and get a load more stuff in without it spilling out onto the floor.

I had a Q7 for a few weeks one Christmas and that had an auto closing single piece tailgate and I thought it was a bag of cack for the same reason, stuff falling out when you open the boot, and I had to manually close it half the time anyway to get it shut.

The next generation RRS needs to return to a split tailgate! Disco 4 2012 3.0 SDV6 HSE,Santorini Black and Ebony, Privacy, Grand Black lacquer, 20" 5 spoke alloys, tow bar

Must admit, I'm the complete opposite, I really didn't like the old 2 piece set up and was very pleased to see they'd changed it when I saw the new MY12. Each to their own Very Happy ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

i'm doing a Land Rover factory tour - i'll ask the rational behind the one piece door and see what they say. Jon Witts

One incident I did have with my current car was during the half term holiday when I was driving with my son up to North Wales for a week to stay at my in-laws holiday house. We had packed the car up with all the kit we needed, plus food and drink for much of the week, so it was reasonably full.

We were travelling on the A458 towards Welshpool when my son said he needed the toilet, and given 5 year old boys can't hang on that long, we pulled into a parking lay-by so he could go.

We got back into the car and I turned round in my seat to hand him something. I had the smart key in my pocket and must have pressed the "open boot" button against the seat belt clip without realising.

The A458 is a busy road and the traffic moves quickly, so I saw a gap in the traffic and put the hammer down from the lay-by. A split second after I'd floored it the boot rose up and the contents of the boot spilled out in a trail of destruction along the road. There were footballs bouncing along, cans of pop split and fizzing everywhere, bits of food strewn out, a wellington boot and even a couple of bog rolls spinning along.

Question is, would the MY2012 boot mechanism saved me? Disco 4 2012 3.0 SDV6 HSE,Santorini Black and Ebony, Privacy, Grand Black lacquer, 20" 5 spoke alloys, tow bar

^^^ Only in the sense that it would have raised straight away with the powered mechanism, rather than just 'releasing' the catch. You would have heard the noise of the motor lifting the tailgate.

Edit: Seems it shouldn't open above 3.1 mph, so if you were crawling along, chances are it might not have raised.

Can't imagine it was fun dicing with death picking up your bits that were strewn over the road Sad ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

+1 like the new one piece tailgate... and the hydraulic lift mechanism is fairly slick too....
Agree with AndyCh though that if its really full something can fall out when you open it....but I'll live with that !!!
