Australia 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Baltic Blue

I had a power tailgate on my VW R36, and it was pretty good.

You couldnt close the tailgate on the keyfob which was pretty ordinary.

I personally love the two piece tailgate, find it better to use. My wife on the other hand reckons the boot on the RRS is the worst feature.

She doesn't use the glass only part ever, as with a pram you need to open it right up, and thinks it is a royal pain and heavy to close (even with power assist close).

When I enquired on LR on this point (when purchasing) I was told that they haven't cracked a power option on a split tailgate ie. you can either have a power tailgate, or a split tailgate, not both. LR obviously decided better to have the power than the split.

I cant think of any manufacturers who offer a split tailgate with power function - can anyone on here think of one?

I suppose it is personal preference, but I prefer split. But I also prefer the full fat (and disco) split - top goes up, bottom goes down..... which is another can of worms! 2011 TDV6 Luxury - Baltic Blue, Ebony with Contrast Stitch, RSE, Stormers, Towpack.

I seem to recall last year a patent being awarded to LR for a power split tailgate. Guess it's just not that good yet!

Land Rover clearly don't have a quality control dept Mr. Green Do LR test anything or do they just send them out of the factory on a friday and hope for the best and let us mugs test and find their faults Whistle They really do need to get a grip on their QC Embarassed

How many cars do LR make per day and on how many lines? Would it really take that much to have a bloke at the end of each line checking the cars.

"See if those boots open and close properly will you skip"
"Alright boss"

Job done. Although on the other hand, maybe the QC gadgie says none of them do, so they just send them out anyway because it would take too much effort to fix them all and the boat leaves for China in half an hour ... Disco 4 2012 3.0 SDV6 HSE,Santorini Black and Ebony, Privacy, Grand Black lacquer, 20" 5 spoke alloys, tow bar

Just collected my car from the garage. As normal its a hassle to work from home and get it in.

When I got there I was told there was not a problem......at this point i asked for technician to show me. He had to press the button twice to get it to open. He said this was normal. I then closed it and asked him to repeat it. This time it took three presses !.

I then asked to get the keys of another RR sport and try that. He was actually surprised it open on the first press, then did a peach of a diagnosis and said " I think you boot must have a fault !"

No Censored Sherlock.....so a complete waste of time going to the garage.

And i know exactly what will happen, they will have it in again, confirm that the power struts are faulty and have order the parts in....for me to visit a third time for repair Sad - Rant over Jon Witts

Demand that your 2012 cars be fitted with the split tail gate, much better even though i have to slam it shut. Whistle SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

Are the powered struts the same units fitted to the Evoques?

It would be interesting to see if they are having similar issues.

it really is a stupid implementation of a good idea. Obviously a power tailgate is a good idea, but why not let it split too, which all modern (respectable) 4x4's do - BMW X5 and FF RR spring to mind.

Very bad compromise that will be fixed in the next version. ============

I think your story an be shared by most of us on here; and for me would be the number one issue I have with any main dealer (if any are listening). Usually, we are armed with more information than they are from trawling the net to try and self diagnose but there is always the 3 stages to getting anything fixed. Evil or Very Mad

My RRS was booked in to the dealer this week and the boot is now working perfectly. One touch from the button on the dash and from the remote.
