I use the fob function to turn them off manually if they're not needed

Turn the ignition off and the lights come on, turn it on then off again and the lights will go off. |

But you can disable them in the settings menu using the button on the left stalk! |

Looks like I was wrong. Just been to the gym and the welcome home lights or whatever they are called were back in operation.

Headlamp Timer is a driver convenience feature which illuminates the driveway after leaving the vehicle.

In the 2010 or newer models, yes you can disable it in the menu. As Bobby said, you have to turn your lights off BEFORE turning the engine off..otherwise it will enable the "follow me home" lights when the key is finally removed.
