Yes but I've put my diamond turned 20s back on for winter with some chunky Leon coopers. I've informed the insurance company about my 22s they charged me £25 quid for it and said that the wheels wouldn't be insured do I now need to tell them I've gone back to my 20s and get stung again Now gone Orkney grey SDV6 HSE with body style kit contrast stitch ebony leather, privacy, black piano, 22" Lowenharts for summer, 20" with Leon LTZ for winter. Only the last set of tyres youre looking at are winter tyres.. the others are just off roaders and wont help you in the ice iiiii |

Don't really know any tyres that are any good in ice apart from studded ones which you can't use in the uk. Now gone Orkney grey SDV6 HSE with body style kit contrast stitch ebony leather, privacy, black piano, 22" Lowenharts for summer, 20" with Leon LTZ for winter.

The grabbers I had on my D3 were stupidly good in the snow... in fact I drove around 5 miles (un-reg'd roads) to drop off something for a friend in the snow 2 years ago.

Sorry mate but I have to disagree.. Proper winter tyres are vastly better on ice than summer or off road tyres due to the compounds used and also the 'sipes' which are featured on each tread block. I've had quite a bit of experience driving cars on frozen lakes in Finland as part of my job and when compared to summer tyres - the difference is night and day. This was without studs too. My wife drives a Boxster S and on the summer tyres (Michelin Pilot) the car would not move hen we have had snow and ice - totally useless. I purchased a set of slightly smaller (18 inch) wheels and fitted them with Nokian winter tyres (it's the only brand they use in Finland) and the car was virtually unstoppable in snow and driveable on ice. You still have to be carefull but the difference is massive. A neighbour of mine has a BMW 335i touring which would not move in ice and snow on std tyres but with the winter tyres - he too is able to sail past stranded X5s etc - no doubt with a wry smile across his chopps! Finally, most car mags have run comparison tests recently showing the difference between the two and they all show it to be massive. I rest my case your honour... J |

That's all well and good on the flat and slight hills but not one car got up the road past our lane end on snow and ice tyres last year in fact most ended up going backwards, once the momentum and the weight of the car took hold it was see you later.

I live .5 mile north of the south downs (which is quite a big hill ) and the Boxster had no problems at all.. Good luck on your off roaders.. Just makes me wonder why most european countrys which suffer from harsh winters insist on winter tyres - even for 4x4s???? this could run and run so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree . Cheers, J |

+1 on the contis. These are fitted to our Volvo xc90 and came from the vehicle supplier. During the really bad snow we had I was able to take all the back lanes in our local area to avoid traffic on the cleared routes, hills and all. There was never even the slightest feeling of being out of control or that we would get stuck. With respect, I think some of this talk of winter tyres could be slightly overstated. Just IMHO, we don't live in nova scotia after all Have i got the busted controller?!?!!? 2009 RRS TDV8 Santorini Black Ivory / Anigre Privacy DVD & TV Side Steps |

I was intending to do exactly the same, but is the speedo reading unaffected? Also, have you had it in a dealer for service etc with these tyres on? I was just wondering if there had been any reaction! |
