Should I buy a RRS?? Help!!!

Hello Everyone,

As in one of my other posts I've just sold my 911 996 C4S cab and now loOking to get a 2007/2008 TDV8 RRS.

I've set my heart on one but I'm really put off by all of the negative threads ref suspension knocking and most worrying the suspension/car faulting at high speed.

It would be good to hear both sides of the story?

My last 11 years has been in Porsche's - I'm used to reliability.

The question is :

SHOULD I BUY A USED RRS?

Yes absolutely despite their little foibles they are absolutely amazing just make sure you buy well, have a long test drive and go through it with a very fine tooth comb before you sign for it.
I'm on my 2nd now and love it to bits apart from a few problems which still need sorting out which will be soon. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Thanks Chris

Is there a RRS bible checklist somewhere?!

Is it best to buy from main Dealer with LR Warranty or is an independant just as good with say RAC warranty etc?

Yes you should buy a RRS. Dealers are the best place to buy them from but you will pay a premium. I have come from the german side also, audi s4 and rs4 and while the build quality is not as good as the german marques, the RRS more than makes up for it in other ways.

I am thinking of selling my TDV8 08plate soon, 12,500 miles on it, 6months full Land Rover Warrenty.
Will have a few more on it in a week due to a hols to france but after that i think i might let it go. Big Cry

dont really use it that much, My work is only 2 miles away so i bike or run it.

I have had the knocking noise on the suspension problem, but LR change the front anti roll bar bushes 6 months ago and that seem to have fixed it. Every car has its problems, audi rs4 suspension, parking sensors and eating break discs. And i am sure your 911 had it's issues over the years.

The end of the day the RRS TDV8 is the best engine they every produced for the RRS and will always comand a premium when you come to sell yours later in the future. Dont be swayed by the cheaper TDV6 RRS TDV8, 22 rims, Privacy Glass, Premuim ICE plus Leather, Sun Roof, Stornoway Grey.

Audi RS4 Avant gone but not forgotten
Audi S4 Avant gone for good, thank god.

Yes but a RRS without a warranty is pointless, so LR extended warranty is the way to go Thumbs Up

£750 a year I believe

YES,main LR dealer, you pay a bit more but it's well worth it,i had mine in yesterday for faulty handbrake & it would have cost £300 to sort if it was'nt covered by warranty.

First of all ....

why did you sell the porsche?

I wouldnt look too much into the fact there are lots of threads al going on about problems. Find me a car out there that has never had an issue and ill bare my bottom on the town hall steps ! (Except FORD KAS')

I have got a long and some what stormy history with Land Rover stemming from my love of the FFRR however since I have got my RRS It has reminded why I started my love affair with Land Rover.

I think you will be very happy in your RRS, just buy wisely and with a warranty. There are some stunning exampels from members of the forum that are for sale and upcoming.
This forum is fantastic for advice and banter. So if there are lots of threads about faults its because we are all perfectionists and like things as they should be !!!!

Foxy Thumbs Up x Smile

To answer the OP - yes!!

This like any other forum is by definition a sounding board to air views about the good and bad points of the RRS.

Not many tales are told of the everyday trips to and from the shops and work and school etc cos that's just boring. I went to Ilkley this afternoon with SWMBO and the car behaved impeccably - hasnt got the same ring to it as my front suspension is knocking again!

Bottom line, (no pun intended) as Foxy said most owners of any car will have the same tales to tell. The RRS experience in my view far outweighs the few niggles Ive had in 18 months ownership.

Oh - and buy the TDV8!! FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

I think the best bet for you would be the latest you can get with a V8 with some residual full warranty funds permitting which would give you the best of all worlds, performance, soundtrack and peace of mind.
I'm only getting at the very most 30mpg out of mine but I drive it much faster than my 2.7 so not complaining but you might as well get the V8 which isn't much worse and I guess will hold up very well on residuals if you buy now whilst 2nd hand prices are at their lowest. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.
