UPDATE

OK, Once again thanks to you all for the advice Thumbs Up

1. I have now confirmed that Autoglass were fitting a NON LR Windscreen.

2. LR have confirmed that this would result in No LR Warranty for the screen / Heated elements
& Rain Sensor and also for any issues arising from the fitment of the Non LR part.

3. LR Insurance have confirmed that they have no issue with my LR Dealer fitting an LR part
& that I will still only need to pay the excess (Not the whole cost of the screen as Autoglass had stated)!

So, result is...... Job Cancelled with Autoglass & car is now booked in with Town & County LR Aberdeen who will
give me a call when new Windscreen is available for fitting, which they reckon will be a couple of days. Cool 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Laughing Perhaps a wee bit harsh there Foxy. Laughing To be fair to Autoglass, I didn't ask if it was an OEM part at first and to be honest, If the car wasn't still under warranty I doubt it would have been as big an issue...... But hey ho... the facts are, it does still have 2 years warranty and I'm not willing to take any chances with it, so off to the dealer it'll go. Thumbs Up I just hope LR parts dept don't let me down Whistle 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

My car is going to the dealer next Tuesday for Windscreen replacement

Hit by a small stone on the highway a couple of days ago, initially just a small hole but now a crack is slowly developing.

Is my second in less than a year. Sad '08 RRS TDV8

as land rover insurance paid for it...ask them to write to you to confirm that the windscreen fitted was a genuine land rover part or fully met the original land rover specification for the windscreen. Remind them its a structural item and that should an accident occur you want them to accept liability should in any subsequent investigation the window is found to be at fault.

Foxy - You raise an interesting point and its all about how you personally view the risk.

I used to be a Dealer Principal at a Ford dealership and they were very strict over what they would or would not pay for (you can imagine how some Transit 'White Van man' warranty claims were closer to fairy tales the truth than!!

If Autoglass say they fitted an OEM screen in writing they probably did. If, when you check for the 'Land Rover' trade marked badge its there then relax and plan you next trip to sunny climes.

If its not then it opens a can of worms, because as some the the guys have said, there is a potential for LR to riggle out of a future warranty problem, the insurers could/might also attempt a wriggle but since Autoglass were their 'agent' it would be a grey legal issue but you don't want to waste your time in legal wrangles. Of course the bigger any claim the more riggling would be invented

It might seem harsh but because of the number of different 'legal' parties involved (Dealer, Insurer, Manufacturer, Glass-maker, Autoglass, etc) I'd take a hard line and if it isn't right I'd insist it was made right to Land Rover's full satisfaction declared in writing.

You're driving a high-end motor so protect your investment and keep it simple so its either right or its wrong.

Just checked and my screen is definitley an OE Screen and is displaying the LR Logo. However, I will put on file the paperwork that autoglass left me....just in case I need to use it a later date.

Thumbs Up Smile

Also in NZ!

I had the same issue when replacing a screen. The insurer want to fit non OEM. I insisted that they fit OEM( in this case a merc screen) . I used the simple logic that if they were prepared to take my large premium for this value car and were prepared to insure the car knowing what likely costs may be. Therefore when an event happened, all I wanted was like for like not an inferior product, nor betterment - they fitted an OEM.
