The X5 in its current shape has been around for 4 or 5 years now, which you would expect to see replaced in 3 years time as well. so as with all BMWs (and most cars in general) as soon as you are into the next generation of the model the prices plummet!

The RRS, since dipping below 30K, has seen a lot of interest in the used car market - and people who normally spent 25K on a golf or a BMW, now want an RRS instead - and I think the market has become flooded - I see approx 20 a day every day, when 3 years ago - maybe saw a few a week. It's kinda one of the reasons I jumped ship. Ok I know I have a Z4 now, but I rarely see one a week - and I know you can't compare them, but I like the fact it's rare.

if you're worried about losing money through depreciation, don't buy a car, let alone an RRS. |

£20k for a 2/3 year old RRS is not anywhere near realistic in my opinion |

I'd spend the £20k on a sexy LR Defender and save the £500+ per month. Then chop in the cash and the Defender in 2014 for a deposit (50% ish) on the new lightweight RRS. It will feel like indescribable luxury after 3 years hacking around in a battle wagon L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

so are you saying I should buy a RRS in the summer, and if I sold it after 3 years I would get 30K for it?? So say about £25K depreciation in 3 years seems about right?

I would not say that is not right - you should expect much less than 50% value after 3 years. 45% to 47% is more realistic.

With the evoque been so new and demand will be high from what i was hearing at my dealers whilst waitng for my motor today there is so much intrest in the evoque 29 deposits already taken, you could get one when they are released run it for 6 months and still sell it almost as much as what you paid for it because i think its more of a womens car (no offence to the blokes who have ordered one for themselves) and we all know women carn't wait for anything as there is always a wait for new models and at 6 months old there won't be many second hand evoques available because the novelty factor won't of worn off so therefore run one for 6-7 months for next to nothing then try something else
