Not with the model cycle in my opinion, LR will release an all new RRS within the next 4 years id bet my house on it. The RRS is in a model run out phase, new engines and a quick facelift to kick start sales.

X5pea,

you have totaly put me off buying one. i made a few calls to some design contacts and yes a new hybrid will be out next year and then the new rrs in 2014 made from a new light weigh chassis. anything new bought now will not be worth 20k in 2014. a 40k hit over 3 years is a bit stong. all to do with increasing mpg and reducing co2's, guess the evoque will be the new foot print for the reshape rrs.

shame may wait around or look at an x5

thanks all

The X5 in its current shape has been around for 4 or 5 years now, which you would expect to see replaced in 3 years time as well. so as with all BMWs (and most cars in general) as soon as you are into the next generation of the model the prices plummet!
the only way to beat it is to get the first edition of a totally new model (as long as you choose wisely!) i would expect the evokes residuals will remain high in the first 3 or 4 years. the RRS will still be ok for another couple of years, especially since i would predict the next gen will probably be more expensive !

in '96 i bought an impreza, lost only a couple of grand in 3 years due to demand
in 2000 i bought another - again only lost 4 grand in 4 years!

but since every young scrote could afford to buy an early model, my last one which was bought in 2007 cost me 13k in depreciation!! MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

Gone: a comprehensive list of imprezas and a Merc ML AMG

The RRS, since dipping below 30K, has seen a lot of interest in the used car market - and people who normally spent 25K on a golf or a BMW, now want an RRS instead - and I think the market has become flooded - I see approx 20 a day every day, when 3 years ago - maybe saw a few a week. It's kinda one of the reasons I jumped ship. Ok I know I have a Z4 now, but I rarely see one a week - and I know you can't compare them, but I like the fact it's rare.

I must say thinking about whats been said here, my proposed purchase of an RRS in the summer looks to be on the back burner now - I was thinking of an Evoque as well, but It doesn't have the elevated driving position of the RRS - and I would only buy it now for it's exclusivity and for the fact not many will be around - but then again it scares me that a new model, especially from LR is always subject to problems - and that puts me off too....

But NO WAY, would I ever go down an X5 route - I'd rather buy a Q5, and suck it up for a while or maybe even a Lexus - but an X5, as much as I love BMW's, not so sure - in fact most BMW's drop money any way you look at them...

if you're worried about losing money through depreciation, don't buy a car, let alone an RRS. Cool

i've no problems with depreciation on cars, it's a fact of market forces

as with codfather, i have spent 30-40k on cars most of my adult life and lost around 4-5k over 2/3 years.

i have lost a lot on one, 12k but its not a killer! it's down to pure demand in the secondary market at the time

only thing to say, buy brand new rrs now and i think you could be on sticky wicket when you come to partx or sell it in 2/3 years time. buy now for 60k and sell for 20k due to redesign coming is hard to contemplate.

my heart is saying sod it and buy one though! where did i put that dealers number...................

£20k for a 2/3 year old RRS is not anywhere near realistic in my opinion

I'd spend the £20k on a sexy LR Defender and save the £500+ per month. Then chop in the cash and the Defender in 2014 for a deposit (50% ish) on the new lightweight RRS. It will feel like indescribable luxury after 3 years hacking around in a battle wagon Thumbs Up L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

so are you saying I should buy a RRS in the summer, and if I sold it after 3 years I would get 30K for it?? So say about £25K depreciation in 3 years seems about right?

I can feel my order for the Evoque coming forward......

I would not say that is not right - you should expect much less than 50% value after 3 years. 45% to 47% is more realistic.

With the evoque been so new and demand will be high from what i was hearing at my dealers whilst waitng for my motor today there is so much intrest in the evoque 29 deposits already taken, you could get one when they are released run it for 6 months and still sell it almost as much as what you paid for it because i think its more of a womens car (no offence to the blokes who have ordered one for themselves) and we all know women carn't wait for anything as there is always a wait for new models and at 6 months old there won't be many second hand evoques available because the novelty factor won't of worn off so therefore run one for 6-7 months for next to nothing then try something else Thumbs Up
