deal or not a deal

Hi troop,
New to the site but have been looking at purchasing a new rrsport.
Met my local LR dealer, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
Have looked at a new (11 plate) HSE 3.0 black with black to pick up march 2nd. No major additions apart from ipod, priv glass & upgraded leather pack. I can get one now putting down 20k and financing the rest for 4 yrs at 529 a month. Is this a good deal or should I wait until summer time.
Not sure what to do ………

You need to check and see if there is a "balloon" payment at the end of the deal and/or of the RRS is yours or reverts.

Thanks guys, the balloon is 16,250 but I’m not that worried over this as I will probably trade back in after three years (it should be flat or small in the money ¾ through the cycle)
Will give me a total of around 62k for a car he said was just over 56k. I think he wrangled something on the finance as I heard the number 51,777 for the car, so they must have done something with black horse or took some off. They had about 10 new ones all wrapped up in the back so not sure if they had a bulk buy in from LR and could do a deal.

Anyway I think its a good deal but don’t want to be left with a car that will be worth 25k in three years time. Ideally I want to keep giving them back after 3 years and stick with LR for a while.

Is this the best way forward or will they take a massive hit over 3 years?

just be carefull of ballon style deals, they are expensive if you plan to walk away!!!, as the dealer already has your first deposit and 4 years payments, and the ballance will always be less than the car is worth, so you are best finding the ballon payment and THEN trade in.
landrover is doing 2 years interest free, pay 2 thirds now and the last third in 2 years - makes more sense if you can afford to , rather than paying 6k in interest MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

Think it will be worth more after 3 years than £25K - mine was 4 years and 3 months, with 67K miles - and only a lowly 2.7 TDV6 HSE and that was worth nearing £25K - I'd hope the new car would be worth close to 30K after 3 years, def above 30K....

One thing I have noticed though, there is a severe lack of low mileage 3 year old cars - each and every one is at the very least over 55K miles....if you have a 3 year old car and keep the miles down to 30K, people would bite your hand off - but then again in 3 years there will def be a new RRS out, so will that still be the case?

Thanks guys,
As we know they aren’t money making machines, just trying to limit damage in the near term. Could do the 66% trade, sounds interesting.

End of the day they are very smart. I know theres not a good time of year to trade with ‘stealers’? or is there?

Would it best to wait until end of March or April to see if they are holding excess stock?

I just can’t believe there are no 6mnths – 1 yr cars with low milage (5-6k). If/when you find one they work out more expensive than brand new ones. The Chinese importers have a lot to answer for!!

Not with the model cycle in my opinion, LR will release an all new RRS within the next 4 years id bet my house on it. The RRS is in a model run out phase, new engines and a quick facelift to kick start sales.

What you have to remember is that when the RRS fist came out demand was very very high, which resulted in great residuals. That’s not going to happen again with the 10MY and later.

I would expect that the evoque will rob sales from the RRS over the next 2-3 years, but the worst factor will be a new RRS which will seriously impact residual values. Id say 25k is optimistic on a 3,0 HSE in 4 years time, bear in mind they are dropping £1000 a month at the moment despite the demand.

£529 x 48months = 25392
Add the 20k deposit = £45,392

Total cost of ownership = 948 a month
plus whatever comes back on top off the residual value of 16k.... sounds crazy to me.

Looks like you've been offered a decent rate as I've just run the figures through on a standard car at 7.9% APR and it's £140 pcm more (admitadly with a balloon which is £700 less). This means £140x47-£700 = £5880 better off.

I'd be interested in seeing a quotation in writing just to see how they have arrived at their figures.

Take it from me as an ex-dealer principal (not LR) you should pay cash if you can. If not borrow the cash from a bank. If you take into account the 'cash' discount against the bank interest on the full purchase price you'll still be quids in.

Be aware that any guaranteed residual value will have conditions on the mileage, trims, paintwork etc which if not they as defined at the end of the finance period will cost you top dollar. I've seen drivers of company cars fork out f£1,000+ or new trim because they had a dog or they'd smoked and 20 p per mile for every mile over 12,000 a year.

Its a pain in the backside but check out the small print

The way car deals work out interest is sneaky an 8% car loan is really about twice that since its charged on the full loan yet the balance is actually reducing as you pay your payments !!

That's why Bank profits are measured in billions

Thanks for the input again, very helpful

Fortunately I have no dog who smokes and that can drive!

We only do about 8K a year.

Off to view again tomorrow. I may see if he can throw in some side steps and then may shake his hand. Will keep you posted
