I found it makes quite a difference sitting behind a lorry, as it creates a slip stream. That's where adaptive cruise is good as it keeps the set distance. I've managed to get higher 30s like that. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

No idea if this is true of the RRS as I have only had mine for 24 hours. However, evey car that I have ever owned has been about 1-2mpg more efficient by turning cruise controll off and doing it the old fasioned way.

Isn't it due to the constant braking and accelerating trying to maintain a set speed?

My indicated mpg over the first 1000 miles all on A, B and single track roads shows 27.7 mpg. Not too bad I thought considering a new tight engine and no long motorway trips.

Read a great tip on hear the other day. When on the motorway sitting at 65-70 Manually select 6th then go back to automatic. It may be that you are running in auto in 5th at high revs and the speed is just below where the box would automatically select 6th gear. Selecting 6th yourself then back to auto, the box will stay in 6th gear = lower revs = fuel savings.

Pretty obvious really, but I never thought of it in the year i've had the RRS. Been trying this for the past couple of days and showing approx 5 MPG better on the display than I normally get. This is with 80 motorway miles a day sitting at around 70 - 80. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy RRS TDV8 (loving it)

55 is ok if using tiptronic mamual selection as you can select 6th gear manually.

Normally auto box usually does not engage 6th gear until 60 mph so best to be doing just over 60 in normal auto box to get the lower gearing.

I find 50 mph is best for mpg but am aware of looking like a road block so tend to settle for 55 mph which appears a bit more acceptable to other road users....

My TDV8 changes into 6th at 50mph without the need to force it with manual selection?

as long as rpm's are over 1,500 it'll change up if light footed RRS gone

Laughing Laughing

My TDV8 was on 12 when I picked it up

130 miles later (at errhemm 80 something plus a few Whistle all the way) it was up to 19

So to maintain 17 requires a pretty heavy foot!
