Sticking Exhaust gas recirculation valve

Help please guys

the engine management light came on yesterday and after taking it to the stealers they inform me the EGR valve is sticking and I require a new one at a fitted cost of £450 . The damn 2007 RRS has only done 16,000miles been serviced at the stealers three times and just come out of its extended warranty. Is this reasonable (as far as it goes) and do I need to do it immediatley (xmas left us skint) I also hear that if one goes the other will follow shortly. any help would be really appreciative.

Hi Hulmey

I have just had an EGR valve go on mine as well, luckily for me the car still has warranty to cover this.

I believe that you can get a blanking kit on ebay for about £10. The 2 metal plates attach between the valves and the inlet body. (I think that you have to remove the plastic cover over the engine to see them - but doubtless someone will be along soon enough to clarify this). I was told this is the usual LR recovery trick to get you home if an EGR valve fails. I am not sure but would think that you could use this for a couple of weeks at least.

I think the valves are just bolted into place and you should be able to just replace them. There is a seller on ebay selling them for £125 each side. Don't know if there is any resetting to be done to the ECU though.

Hi, I just had the same problem on my 2007 TDV6, I tried cleaning the valves but it didn't work, the valve is more than likely just sticking and not closing properly. You will need a new valve at some stage I had my local garage do it for the cost of the valve £125.00 and £45.00 labour, they also had a computer to reset the light. You can't blank 2007 onwards euro 4 cars as the sensor on the valve will cause the light to come on. I have a theory that low mileage cars suffer badly because they coke up more quickly. You can use 2 stroke oil afterwards to reduce the soot and coke. Idea
