Between May 2005 and August 2010 I owned first a 2.7TDv6 SE and then a 3.6TDv8 HSE. I've owned Land Rovers since 1994 and still own 2 (Def 90 and FFRR). The TDv8 RRS is the best car I have ever owned as an ALL Round sensible car - economical, fast enough for me, fairly quiet and well able to handle every type of road/conditions I put in front of it. My SE was a very nice car BUT the 2.7 while adequate wasn't overpowered. The 3.6 was the diesel engine that the RRS should have had from day one. I now have a 3.6 TDV8 FFRR Vogue - it is the most expensive car I have ever owned and it is superb BUT it could be better - if LR had given it the Dynamic Response system and Brembo brakes of the TDv8 RRS then it would be perfect (the 2011 TDv8 now has both these as well as the incredible 4.4 TDv8 engine).

Cheers for that.My last 2 have been a Nissan Patrol and a Freelander TD4 HSE(auto). The nissan was just a beast never let me down once in 4 years, never ever got stuck whilst I've seen and towed out nearly every other 4x4 out there(mind I blame pilot skills for a lot of those) The only down side was I got 11/12 to the gal.and as I said in another post I do a lot of travelling to shoots at the weekends.Hence I downsized to the Freelander, which I had for 18 months and has been flawless,so much so I sold it to one of my wifes friends.Sounds like your sister got a bargain there though |

The XF is a great car. Mine is the 2.7 diesel whilst the new ones are 3.0 (the same engine that is in the new RRS). I find the 2.7 to be fine, plenty of get up and go albeit there is a slight pause when you are setting off in first, not a problem once you get used to it, however having had the chance to drive the 3.0 this is better off the line as there is very little pause. The XF is a great car to drive, very comfortable and handles extremely well for a big car. There is plenty of room inside and the boot is huge. Mine was bought from new and was bought within the first 6 months of the model being available, in saying that I didn't have too many problems with it, it has been pretty reliable. Had to get jaguar assist out twice, once because the connections to the battery had jumped off and the second time (a bit more serious) was due to the rotary gear selector having stuck in park - the car was in the garage for 3 weeks whilst they waited on a new part. I was considering buying a new XF, however it is absolutely hopeless in the snow and I've always wanted a range rover so those are the reasons I am changing. Given the last two winters I can't be doing with a car that can't cope - it's very embarassing when nissan micras and ford kas are nipping past you as you sit with your wheels spinning! 3.0 SDV6 HSE Dynamic, Corris Grey with contrast Santorini Black Panoramic Roof, lunar interior, privacy glass, upgraded Meridian system, cooled 18 way front seats, heated steering wheel, adaptive xenons, large screen wash bottle. Gone: 3.0 TDV6 HSE, Santorini Black, Ivory/Lunar interior, grand black lacquer finish, HK Logic 7.1 Surround, Privacy Glass, Adaptive Xenons, heated steering wheel. Gone: Jaguar XF Luxury, Pearl Grey, Dove Interior |
