Have owned my RRS now for 3 weeks and its a pleasure to drive, I honestly wouldnt want to change it for anything else, as for depreciation all cars have the same problem some more than others but you can rest assured if you ever wanted to sell it on there are always lots of intrested potential buyers as I found out when i recently sold my D3, I say go for it you only live once. heh heh. i'm in virtually the same boat as the OP.

never owned a LR but now obsessed by the idea of an RRS. i guess a lot of us have come in here out of the snow. Laughing

reckon the heart has won out over the head though. once you get this fixated on something it's as well to give it a go. if it doesn't work out then, hey, you've got it out of your system.

now all i've got to do is to find the right RRS. Shocked

To the opening post - GET IT BOUGHT!!

Yes they have their faults, but what doesn't? Merc, Audi, Jag & BMW drivers may sneer when you have to visit a dealer more often than them - but when you consider how our weather is changing....you get to smile when you CAN get out your drive, you CAN get to your work, you CAN fully freight it & still comfortably travel a lenghty journey with a far greater stance on the road.

Just picked her ladyship up from the dealer in Ayr this morning (again) and while talking to a salesman when I was waiting for my keys......he told me they have had an amazing December & start of the year for sales....cannot get enough 4x4's!!

Nuff said. Everybody is clinging on to their sanity….Some just hide it better than others….

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Between May 2005 and August 2010 I owned first a 2.7TDv6 SE and then a 3.6TDv8 HSE. I've owned Land Rovers since 1994 and still own 2 (Def 90 and FFRR). The TDv8 RRS is the best car I have ever owned as an ALL Round sensible car - economical, fast enough for me, fairly quiet and well able to handle every type of road/conditions I put in front of it. My SE was a very nice car BUT the 2.7 while adequate wasn't overpowered. The 3.6 was the diesel engine that the RRS should have had from day one. I now have a 3.6 TDV8 FFRR Vogue - it is the most expensive car I have ever owned and it is superb BUT it could be better - if LR had given it the Dynamic Response system and Brembo brakes of the TDv8 RRS then it would be perfect (the 2011 TDv8 now has both these as well as the incredible 4.4 TDv8 engine).

Regarding reliability out of all my Land Rover cars only one has left me stuck at the side of the road (a TD5 Disco2 Auto that shredded an auxy drive belt) I had to call LRA out to cure problems with the brakes on a TD4 Freelander1 after a weekend offroading it in Wiltshire but it never broke down and was still drivable, just had howling brakes and the 2.7RRS had the attentions of LRA on my drive after it kept going into limp-home mode that was traced to a software glitch (it was a very early RRS built in March 2005) The only time the TDv8 made an unscheduled stop was last summer a week before it went back to LPR, when I shredded the front nearside and damaged the nearside rear tyres when I ran off the edge of a country road and found a very deep pothole at 60mph, trying to avoid having an accident with a lunatic on coming driver who had decided to overtake a car a bit too late................................ 4 new Pirelli Scorpion's a week before handing the car in nearly made me cry!

Keep looking - there are good deals out there - my sister recently bought a 2008 2.7 TDv6 SE with full leather, privacy, satnav, built in phone system and 20" wheels with 9000 miles on it for just £22k. It had had some problems with the previous owner, my brother in law bought it, took it straight to the local dealers and got it sorted and all the missing updates put in under warranty and it hasn't missed a beat since, and living 11miles up a farm road ownership of an RRS has paid off in spades this winter! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Cheers for that.My last 2 have been a Nissan Patrol and a Freelander TD4 HSE(auto). The nissan was just a beast never let me down once in 4 years, never ever got stuck whilst I've seen and towed out nearly every other 4x4 out there(mind I blame pilot skills for a lot of those) Laughing The only down side was I got 11/12 to the gal.and as I said in another post I do a lot of travelling to shoots at the weekends.Hence I downsized to the Freelander, which I had for 18 months and has been flawless,so much so I sold it to one of my wifes friends.Sounds like your sister got a bargain there though Wink

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

Hi Mr Fixit,

Thought I would share my experience. I have owned my 2.7 TDV6 HSE for about 6 months. I have had a number of issues - brakes failed Shocked - check any car you look at has had this recall done!, coolant bottle replaced, bonnet sensor replaced, various rattles (many sorted with this forum Thumbs Up )
I still have a few unresolved issues steering wheel wobble, issue with central locking, exterior plastic trim that needs replacing, knocking suspension, squeeky parking brake.

I have a real love/hate relationship with the car. Like you I went with my heart and bought one. At times I have felt so frustrated - I have never worked on a car as much as I have on this one (my most expensive) but when I looked at alternatives (Q5,7, Lexus) post RRS purchase nothing could compare to the RRS and capture my heart in the same way.

My strong advice is to get the LR warranty, or equivalent ( I think a site sponsor offers an alternative). I bought mine from a small independent as I stuggled to find a car of good enough quality with the right spec - many dealer cars 2 years old looked as if they had had a really hard life from the seats etc. With hindsight I would say go main dealer with this one for piece of mind with the benefit of experience

I actually haven't got the LR warranty due to cost and thinking I may get through the year spending less as the money I have spent is bringing the car up to spec and not indicative of ongoing expense. Though I begin to doubt this and am seriously considering it - if I keep the car.

So my experience 6 months on - I am undecided if I keep the car. I hate all the work and effort I have put into it (A RRS IMHO is not a car you can just get in and drive - do prepare to be on first name terms with your local dealer and consistently have an issue to be resolved - many not serious just niggly). I still love walking up to it (It looks great) and driving it. As you say it is a real heart over head decision.

Despite this my advice would be to give it a go and get it out of your system - I am still very happy that I tried it. Though with the benefit of hindsight maybe I shouldn't have........

Good luck with whatever you decide. 2011 Autobiography Santorini Black

Can you give a summary on how you found the XF, when my pikey wagon goes one day the XF is drawing me to it like a moth to a candle Smile

The XF is a great car. Mine is the 2.7 diesel whilst the new ones are 3.0 (the same engine that is in the new RRS). I find the 2.7 to be fine, plenty of get up and go albeit there is a slight pause when you are setting off in first, not a problem once you get used to it, however having had the chance to drive the 3.0 this is better off the line as there is very little pause.

The XF is a great car to drive, very comfortable and handles extremely well for a big car. There is plenty of room inside and the boot is huge. Mine was bought from new and was bought within the first 6 months of the model being available, in saying that I didn't have too many problems with it, it has been pretty reliable. Had to get jaguar assist out twice, once because the connections to the battery had jumped off and the second time (a bit more serious) was due to the rotary gear selector having stuck in park - the car was in the garage for 3 weeks whilst they waited on a new part.

I was considering buying a new XF, however it is absolutely hopeless in the snow and I've always wanted a range rover so those are the reasons I am changing. Given the last two winters I can't be doing with a car that can't cope - it's very embarassing when nissan micras and ford kas are nipping past you as you sit with your wheels spinning! 3.0 SDV6 HSE Dynamic, Corris Grey with contrast Santorini Black Panoramic Roof, lunar interior, privacy glass, upgraded Meridian system, cooled 18 way front seats, heated steering wheel, adaptive xenons, large screen wash bottle.

Gone: 3.0 TDV6 HSE, Santorini Black, Ivory/Lunar interior, grand black lacquer finish, HK Logic 7.1 Surround, Privacy Glass, Adaptive Xenons, heated steering wheel.

Gone: Jaguar XF Luxury, Pearl Grey, Dove Interior

Among other cars, I've owned Range Rovers since 1974.

1974 No issues, 40,000 miles
1977 No issues, 25,000 mls
A 1981 broke an oil pump kept for 15 years, 120,000 miles
1987 Vogue needed transfer box replaced, 8 years, 100,000
A 1998 needed aircon controller, 6 years 120,000
2006 Vogue no issues, 30,000
2010 (sept 09) 3.0d HSE, RR Sport no issues 19,000 miles so far.

As earlier members have said "Go for it", Buy one ex-demo, or a year old which will have taken a sting off teh depreciation, however the 2ndhand prices are firm/holding up.
