Grass, gravel and snow setting

Having just done a 40 odd mile trip on the GGS setting my right leg is about to fall off! The RRS behaved impeccably in the snow and slush and ice but I had to give the accelerator a serious push to keep the car moving and to maintain a cruising speed.

I did expect the setting to 'dull' the car's responsiveness, but not to this extent. Is this the normal effect of selecting GGS? FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Yep sounds normal, at first it feels like you are driving through treacle Smile
Put on your 4x4 info and you can see if the diffs lock up when you accelerate, also handy to see where your front wheels are pointing when it gets really slippy Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Not that I have noticed certainly up to 120km/h on the motorway around here, but are you going to be travling that fast in slippy conditions? Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

it modifys the throttle response in making you have to press the pedal harder to get a little more speed ie it gives you very little at the start. It also engages the centre diff lock (and rear diff lock if you have it) and makes them more sensitive to wheel slip also brings in the traction control and ABS to modify wheel slip.

This is all supposition from what I feel when driving and testing out what happens when you try to get the car out of shape.

For more fun you can try SAND Mode in the snow Twisted Evil there the throttle mapping is the opposite of GGS in that it gives you all right at the start of pressing the throttle, also engages diff locks and allows wheel slip so you can get the car very out of shape quite easily
I was in Sand mode and DSC off to get the car to do this last year

If I've used GGS, but switched back to normal mode before shutting the car down, it sometimes defaults back to GGS when I start the car again. Has anyone else experienced this? 14.5MY SDV6 HSE Dynamic Indus silver/lunar/ebony 20" wheels, InControl, full-size spare, electric tow bar, adaptive xenons, adaptive cruise control, auto main beam assist. Gone: TDV8 HSE; Zermatt silver/ebony, 19" off road alloys, active diff, particle filter, tow pack (it was fun) BMW 730D SE (great car, sadly missed). Ford Focus RS mk2, Ultimate green, lux pack 2, bluetooth. The start of my mid-life crisis.
IN THE GARAGE: BMW i8 - the mid-life crisis continues and it's great fun.

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Santorini Black

Hi guys loving the snow and the GGS mode, now the reason it feels sluggish to pull away is it's in second gear, you can see this if you select manual mode. Also it won't change past 3rd gear, again if u use manual mode you'll see. It selects 2nd to stop you mashing the throttle and spinning the tyres. You cam overide in manual, also doesn't go past third to stop you going to fast which you wouldn't want to do if conditions are that bad! If you have the 4 x 4 screen on you will notice only transmission and rear axle diffs only lock when needed, again if you mash throttle you only cause the TC to cut in. I find manual mode in GGS the best, as when ur slowing at an icey junction you can select 1st to give extra engine braking.

The transmission on these cars are amazing, a little bit over zealous when overtaking, I've also found sport mode best for 'A' road spirited driving, I have managed to get brake fade, even with the Brembo's in normal auto mode, but select sport and the transmission changes down helping to loose speed and helping the brakes.

Sorry for patrionising some, hope it helps others.

Old stager.

I have just that problem

When I drive my v8 in dynamic mode sometimes when I park it up when I get back in the TR has defaulted to normal. Sometimes it stays in dynamic

Now that we have the snow I have used GGS and put it back to normal turned it off however when I go back and start it it now defaults to GGS.

Can anyone offer any help?
