Knocking that disappears after 10 min...

Hi guys,

I'd like to raise the issue once again if you don't mind.

Every morning or any other time when the car has been stationary for a long period, I can hear some kind of knocking noise (not loud at all, can hardly hear it but can also feel it with my feet) from the front of the car (suspension or not - not sure). I can hear it when driving over deepen holes in the ground, i.e. whenever the front wheels move downwards; when driving over speed bumps or whenever the wheels move upwards - there is no noise. What is more interesting, the noise disappears after driving for 10 minutes or so... I noticed the problem 2 weeks ago when the weather changed cold. The car is 4 months young S/C A/B.

Any ideas will be very much appreciated. Thanks. Vadim A.

I actually have exactly the same thing. My car has recently beed serviced for knocking suspension, but after few weekd since the service I have exactly the same problem as Vadim. When the car is cold for the first 10-15 minutes I have an annoing knocking, wchich improves significantly after the car wamrs up.
I have been at the LR last week again, and they said they know what the problem is, but then need to order some parts. So now I am waiting to have the car fixes. I wonder if it will be fixed though. My name: Patryk

hmm interesting, since they told you they knew what the problem was, did you manage to ask what was it? I actually have an info that it is actually not a problem, it has something to do with the cold weather and the temperature of suspension. Hence once it warms up it functions properly... and the knocking stops..

RRSPoland, is there any way you can ask your dealers about the problem? Thanks. Vadim A.

they roughly told me, but I dont remember the details and I dont know english words for this. But once they get the parts and make an appointment I will ask in more detail.
What they said was somethin that there is a gap between suspension bars/column (?) and the stabilization bag (?) when the car is cold. when the car warms up it imroves, because the parts move more smoothly. They said that at least in my case except for annoing noice there is no technical problem with it that it may result in some further damages.

Once I have more info I will let you know. Sorry for the wording, but I cant find in any disctionary appropriate english words for these parts. My name: Patryk

I have just had exactly the same problem fixed..........knocking for 10mins then quiet.

It was the Anti roll bar bushes and a ball joint needed replacing.

No knocking at all now Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I will try to write it in my own words the best I can Smile
So I spoke with LR. They said that this is the problem with the adaptive suspension bars (I am not sure if this is the same thing as anti roll bars) and rubber joints. The rubber joints get worn out which creates a gap between rubber joints and stabilisation bars - thus the knocking.
as apparently LR does not provide just rubber joints themselves, but they come together with the suspension bars, there are two options:
- the expensive one to exchange the stabilisation bars, which include rubber jonts.
- or put some kind of pad to eliminate the gap.
Of course with the second option (fairly cheap) there is no guarantee how long it will last My name: Patryk

Finally, I decided to book my RRS to see what causes the problem. I have not had any updates yet, but will come back when I hear from Lookers Park Royal. It has been there for 1.5 days now hopefully they have good news! Bow down But it looks like the car will have to stay with them for a couple of more days. Vadim A.

Very interesting. I have the same noise although it doesn't trouble me enough to bother with the dealer. I'm surprised that a MY10 RRS needs attention such as this so early in its life. The handling is still good.

My MY07 Disco3 is still very reliable, although to drive both cars proves that they're very different. Every silver lining has a cloud

I had the same, NJF. I have just about 6.5k miles on the clock. The noise did not bother me at all and it would disappear within 4-5 miles drive, but I booked it in just for the sake of it. It should make no noise after all... I will be able to say how it drives now on Monday. Will let you know. Thumbs Up Vadim A.
