Amber engine light on and no fault codes

Hi All,
I have had the amber engine light go on and off on my TDV6 for a while until it eventually came on permanently. When I took it in for a service they said there were no fault codes, reset the ECU and said it was simply a bug in the system. Is it possible to have the light come on without fault codes? 10 min away from the service and it came on again and has resorted to being intermittent again. i originally cleaned battery leads without effect. I am beginning to suspect a poor earth but have no idea where to start looking. Any ideas? (I am out of warranty).
thanks,

I've just had this and they told me it was a faulty EGR valve. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

That's what I also thought, but surely the car would log a fault code? Also, there aren't any symptoms of a faulty EGR. TDV6, MYO7 Java with Ivory leather, 19 inch wheels

My 07 TDV6 did the same thing, the diagnostic pointed to an EGR Valve not quite closing properly so I did this and the light has never returned: 2 Stroke Oil added to diesel

I thought I would post my results from adding 300ml of 2-Stroke Oil into a tank of diesel. I had a problem with a lazy egr valve causing the engine management light to come on, having read about adding 2-Stroke oil I thought I would give it a go. I am now on my second tank and the results are amazing, the egr valve fault seems to have dissapeared, the engine is quieter, smoother, and more responsive. Before the addition I was getting 24.5mpg now it is more like 28mpg quite some improvement. to the RRSport Forum! Thumbs Up

I didn't have any symtoms either, might be my imagination but it did seem quicker after the repair. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.
