What no tips etc Big Cry

Well for anyone with the same problem its good news...... an easy fix!
Took the switch out and apart and it looked just as the previous photos.

One thing I would add is that its the switch unit that has the fault not the actual microswitch!
If you want a quick temp fix take the switch unit apart, removing the spring and switch flap/paddle (easy to see in the photos) sandpaper the living daylights out of the hinge pin area of the flap/paddle and put it back together (the issue is that the hinge pin area becomes so corroded that it becomes stiff, add this to a very weak spring and the problem is that the flap/paddle is not pushed away from the micro switch allowing it to switch on or off and doesnt release the power feed and can cause a flat battery)...... problem solved for now........ then order a new unit to replace as it will happen again!

Sorry for delay in responding.
As i see you have already completed it.
it is easy, the only thing i now notice is that the switch hasn't and won't fully clip into place and has been slightly out of the socket when i have popped the lid (after driving) and when i close it.
I think i may put something simple like blue tack or a small spot of super glue onto the plastic catch to hold it in fully.
i shall still try and put the video on here. 2014 RRS

It appears the previous owner had the same issue with one of the lights to the side of the switch as it was taped into place as he had snapped one of the clips/pegs, with the external decorative panel removed (see the photos on my other post) you can get easy access to the back of the switch and lights and can just pin/screw into place.

Well here we go again.........

Ive had a flat battery twice now but had assumed it was connected to the corroded switch issue as in another thread

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic18772.html

But...... Went out to the bl%*dy thing this afternoon and yes youve guessed right a flat battery awaited me! Grrrr!

I can hear the switch clicking when I touch it so I know its not that stuck in any position causing a live drain.

Any suggestions anyone?
Tried putting a meter on it to test for a drain but its only occasional so catching it is like winning the lotto.

( Reminds me of a Mark 4 escort convertible I had with the same problem, it took weeks of thinking outside the box until we discovered it was a relay that water had got into, rusted away the little spring to diconnect the live feed resulting in the connection just flapping around. 'Heads or Tails' situation, when driving it would bounce/flap around and when you stopped it landed either 'off' or 'on/live'............ heads = battery good next time, tails = battery dead as a dodo)

hi it will be your micro switch thats causing the flat battery as the corrosion will have got into the switch itself for the sake of £30 its better to buy a new one than clean the original one up Thumbs Up

Probably due to a faulty battery - a cell intermittently shorting out. I've just had the same problem. OK one minute, flat battery the next. When I put a charger on mine it came back up from 10 volts to 14.4 volts in 5 minutes and was perfectly OK again - until next time. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

Well the new switch bought from fleabay arrived this morning and as M14rsh has already said it has a sticky substance bedding the rubber to the switch housing to prevent water from getting in.

Time to go and fit it I guess, fingers crossed!

Just as an add on..... after cleaning and refitting the original switch last week the tailgate was working perfectly however I still had the battery problem which now had some interesting readouts on the dash which werent there before.......
1st one - 'tailgate open', checked and it wasnt so opened and closed a few times
message went to be replaced by.....
2nd one - 'HDC fault, system not available' , lasted for approx 5 seconds
to be replaced by.....
3rd one - 'DSC off' , pressed the DSC switch and it came back on

After 20 mins of driving switched ignition off and back on again with no messages present so guessing the 2nd and 3rd were due to low battery power.

Will update later Thumbs Up

Following this thread I have just resolved my battery drain problem.

I removed mine (with the tailgate shut as I couldn't open it), by pulling the rubber surround off completely then gently pushing a thin screwdriver head into the left hand side which pushed in the tab (similar to the side repeater tabs) whilst pushing the switch out to the left. Once out the connector may be tight to get at especially if you have large fingers, but if you gently pull you should be able to get at it enough to squeeze the tab in.

The guys at Guy Salmon parts said i'd have to remove the whole plastic trim but this certainly wasn't the case!
