Short answer. Do it. Thumbs Up

I know dealers can be a pain in the a**e but the car far outweighs that. Personally Ive had S/C that was a problem, but was an early car & Mrs JFK didnt like her Merc & now we have an 08 2.7TDV6 & she loves it.

I think your Northampton way, check the thread for dealers here to see if theres any feedback on your nearest. If not it seems CHPR @ Park Royal are the guys to chat with or PM me & I can give you a contact @ Hadley Green Garage in Barnet, North London, Herts, who have sold me everything except the Volvo!! Rolls Royce Ghost, RRS 2.7 TDV6, E220 Avantgarde Estate.

The RRS is a great car to drive! Loved mine to bits up to the point it started breaking down and the dealer couldn't seem to fix it. 3 times it came back and broke down again within days with similar faults! I've thought long and hard about replacing it with another and to be honest I'm swithering on the side of returning to BMW until LR can sort out their dealer network and the amount of "features" that seem to be plaguing the new 3 litre engines.

I've had the same problems with getting dealers to return calls when I've phoned about used cars on their fore courts.

At the end of the day its your money and your decision but you could do worse than give site sponsors LPR a ring and talk to Spencer or Matt. At least they will call you back and talk to you about anything you want to know. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

The car IMHO is excellent, and the characteristics of the car and foibles of the dealers just add to the interest if owning one, just accept it as sport and enjoy the challenges and confrontations it brings. It is a Range Rover for goodness sake, reliability crap, but reputation and standing still great, even Clarkson loves them, and he out ran a Challenger tank in the sport. well almost, got blown to smithereens IIRC. Car a joy to drive when right, dealers there to kick when you in bad mood, like the office cat (sorry James) purple people eater

Would I buy again, definitely not, the whole experience is not a particularly good one. Suspension knocks, even after countless warranty visits, dealers are terrible (the ones beginning with S*********), its too much money to pay for something that has too many un rectified recurring faults.

Perhaps I'm too fussy but when you pay £60k for a car I expect it to be right and treated as an expensive purchase, not as a purchase where no one gives a damn once your money has changed hands.

It is marginal. The car, when it fully works, is undoubtedly very good and I love mine but the 'Best 4x4 by far' tag reminds me of the 'Worlds favourite airline' - it was the best 4x4 but others are definitely catching up and the LR after sales care and dealer network, or to be correct my experience of it, is dire.

I think the decision depends upon your personality and approach. If you are a patient sort with time to chase dealers and who doesn't expect a £50-60k priced tag to come with much customer care (I compare it to a private sale to my friends) then yes - go for it.

If time and patience is limited and you would like the dealer you just paid your £50-60k to to bother to ring you back when you tell them the car you just bought from them has broken down then I think there are other 4x4s you should look at - which seem to have gone through some sort of quality control process and are sold through a dealer network whose prime motivation is not 'just to sell cars' but cares about after care service and the brand they represent - (or worse will only look at a problem if either (a) you pay them or (b) it relates to what they expect to be a known technical issue and are confident of getting a quick payback from LR for the warranty - I suspect this at least has something to do with their reluctance to quickly respond to aftersales issues).

I would follow the advice in a previous post and speak to LPR - they seem to be consistently recommended and the fact they follow this forum and seem very keen to help out and respond to people's frustrations speaks volumes. I have never dealt with them but wish I had when I bought the car and travelled the extra miles....

Good luck

Singe

Meeoow! Laughing

Please feel free to drop either Matthew or myself an email, and if you would like to come down for a couple of hours to have a proper discussion then we would love to see you! Very Happy

matthewgurney@lookers.co.uk or jamestayler@lookers.co.uk

I have always had LR's in the family, have two at home and have worked for the brand for the last 11 years having spent my youth selling VW and Audi...... I have to say that I love the brand and that the general quality seems to get better each year. We take a lot of newish premium brand products in part-exchange from 'fed-up' customers and hear tails of woe about most manufacturers! In addition, you will usually find more negative discussion on forums as opposed to positive by virtue of how people found themselves signing-up in the first place (i.e. had an issue or concern and wanted to find other owners who may have had the issue). There are plenty of very happy customers out there who love their cars to bits, but have not stumbled across this wonderful place. Thumbs Up

Regards,

James Thumbs Up

Agree with LPR, just wish I had travelled further to a better dealer, but I would have still had to go to the local one for some dealings.

Product could be excellent in all respects for not very much effort, as the saying goes 'don't spoil the ship for a happeth of tar'

I echo SingeRRS's post

My RRS was pretty faultless and it was an extremely competant 4x4 - I got rid as I found it too small inside and my local dealer was never really interested in me once they got their money

I would say get it - I loved owning it even though it was only for 16 months.

I've only had a couple of minor teething problems with mine which haven't in any way spoilt my enjoyment of the car, and I had the similar small issue when I purchased a brand new Lexus and Mercedes (far worse in the Mercedes in fact). This is my first Land/Range Rover and I'd get another without hesitation. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Given the over inflated price of Rangies in Australia, I'm looking to buy used instead of new. Can't justify the price ($170k AUD for a 2010 RRS SC) given the huge depreciation and problems that are bound to come up.

The Land Rover customer service is appalling - have been totally ignored in the dealership several times.

Still battle with the low coolant issue on the 2006 RRS SC, despite having the sensor and the container changed under warranty.

hello all

think i will be paying a visit to lookers london as your informative site seems to really rate this dealer, why is the s...........e chain of dealers so poor, esp as my last car a lexus ,came from a dealer with a rr dealership opposite but they do not want my buisness, and the atmosphere in the showroom is totally opposite to the lexus can we do any thing for you
must be a pleasant postion to be in for thhe dealers to pick customers who can buy their product, and i thought they would be keen to do a deal

so perhaps waiting for summer and the initial problems to be addressed by lr on the new models may be best

i am impressed by the vehicle but the dealers put me off then there is the infiniti and the showroom which makes lr appear a true amatuer

i will have to decide soon oh such problems

regards to all
