This 1st trip cadet was sent to look for the dipstick on my ship's main engine............................ he is standing on top of part of the exhaust piping from the engine to one of the 3 turbo chargers. We don't have a dipstick (apart from him) as such but we do have a 2m deep x 40m long sump and that has a "sounding" tape as well as a low level and high level alarm float at each end of the engine. The 4 upright things in the lower half of the photo are the fuel injectors with the HP fuel lines leading to them.

So, did the dipstick ever come out and if so what was holding it in? |

Tried everything to get the dipstick out including the hairdrier on the sheath, whilst standing on the engine pulling and hauling at the plastic ring top on the stick. Eventually broke the plastic ring with the remainder of the stick left in the sheath, so I had no option to put it into a local garage and get them to drill the dipstick out. Looked like the o-rings had deformed and stuck to the sheath.

I've just bought a 2006 RR sport here in Kenya. It's been badly mistreated so lots to do. My gearbox dipstick won't come out. I've seen the previous posts, tried all the suggestions. There's no dealership option where I am, I can see that the sheath is slightly distorted and I need to remove it to return it to shape or to replace it.
