Do you worry about number of owners?

I’m enquiring about a 2018 V6 HSE dynamic and it’s had 4 previous owners meaning one a year. This worries me a bit as it makes me think people haven’t been happy with it and moved it on quickly, but am I reading too much into it? It’s got a full Land Rover service history.

Do others worry about the number of owners or do you just go on condition of the car, mileage etc?

I suppose you could over think this or it be totally innocent. You naturally think that it’s had problems and it’s been passed on when the owner has thrown the financial towel in. Or somebody has owned one to tick the box and then moved on etc…….if it’s got FDSH on it, it will have cost a mighty sum. Are you able to see the bills or just pursuing at this stage?. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

I can’t see the actual bill but they’ve sent me the service history via pdf which lists what was undertaken and they’ve not listed any extra work. I guess I could ask if it’s been back at any point for warranty work, I assume they can’t lie about anything in this day and age.

You could add "owners" quite quickly without it being a lemon. Pre-reg by the original dealer (1), sold using finance (2), paid off the finance (3) and later sold to another dealer (4). Doesn't mean the car is a lemon. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I guess the other concern regarding numbers of owners is resale value.

Depends how long you're looking to keep it. If you're a "buy it and sell in 6 months" type of person then it will be more if an issue than someone like me that buys something and sticks 100k+ miles on it.

My view is that if it's priced fairly for what it is then it's worth what is being asked for it. If they have allowed for the 4 owners in the price being asked then you lose little when you sell. If they're asking for one-owner money, then they'll be holding it for a while. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The one important point to remember is that it's not the only RRS out there for sale. If you're unsure, go elsewhere. Yes, it's annoying to have to keep looking when you want your new car NOW! ( Wink ) but we've all been there and bought in haste at least once in our car owning lives. Whistle Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I tend to keep my cars 3-4 years, although my current one I've had for 5 years as I've not found anything to swap it for.

There are a few things I'm unsure about tbh, one is the number of owners and the others aren't to do with this specific car per se. I've never driven an RRS before so don't even know if I'll like the drive (the closest thing is my wife's Evoque and that's still nothing like it I assume), and then I've read mixed reports about the S/C V6 in that it can feel underpowered. The only way I'll know the latter two points is to test drive it of course Wink

It's not a case of buying in haste as I've been looking for a while on and off, it's more about coming to the realisation that I'm unlikely to get what I want (V8 Autobiography Dynamic) due to affordability and have to be more realistic in my search.

Why's that?

If I avoid the V6 S/C then it really narrows my options. The HST looks good on paper but I'm really not a fan of the Suede steering wheel, which then leaves me with the V8 Autobiography Dynamic and the SVR

While a good engine on paper. I think they like to self destruct. Production was stopped.
I mean they aren't as bad as the diesels though .....

Diesels are out anyway as I only do very short journeys mostly these days.
