Hi all

Im hoping to have both electric plug fitted for towing, but now have been told that once fitted i will have to take the car to Land rover to be plugged into a computer, so that the car recognises that a trailer / caravan is on the back and car can adjust accordingly. is this right ?????????????

Yes and no! Yes a main dealer will do it for something £100 but many of the Land Rover non franchise specialist garages also have the right autologic systems to be able to do it for a fraction of the cost! The update stops the suspension height being adjusted when it senses there is something plugged into the rear electrics - you loose the access and offroad heights when towing. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Well I never knew that was the reason Tim, I always thought it was to do with the lighting

Glad I never had mine done then, it sometimes makes loading motorcycles onto my trailer with the height adjusted (alters angle of trailer) on the RRS!

IIRC from other posts the software download is also to isolate the fog lights so the glare doesnt reflect from the caravan.

The trailer Icon works without the SW update
The reversing sensors were disabled without the update
I was informed the update was to switch off rear fogs
New one about disabling off road - not heard that before but interesting, as Daz says, useful to have ability to select when using a trailer....

In summary you can DIY fit electrics in under an hour an away you go - UNLESS MY10 onwards has been setup differently, I have fit electrics to a 55(MY??) plate and a 58(MY09) plate with no issues

That rear fog glare is there to remind you that you shouldn't have a caravan
