Anti-Virus Software

Hi Guys

Software programs are not my thing, so i need some advice

I will have to renew my anti-virus software very soon, having used Norton in the past, very good but very slow, and having just used up 3 months free McAfee, seemed good, i now must deciede which of these or other recommended software to plum for.

Vipre seems to review well, but have no experience of it myself

Anybody help?

Ash, for the past 3 years i've been using Kaspersky and it's been great.

Regular updates and doesn't seem to cause slow down like Norton used to do for me.

I'd thoroughly recommend it Thumbs Up Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Avira AntiVir Free - www.free-av.com

If you want to pay for one, I would thoroughly recommend Kaspersky Smile Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Thanks guys

score so far is Kaspersky 2 AVG 2

I had planned on paying for one, i presume Kaspersky®2010 Internet Security is more comprehensive than Kaspersky®Anti-Virus 2010? MY10 3.0 TDV6 HSE, Zermatt Silver, 20" Diamond Turned Alloys, Factory Privacy Glass, Premium Leather, Contrast Stiching, Side Steps, Etc

In a similar vein I have just bought a Mac and everybody I have spoken to says "You don't need an anti-virus program for a Mac" I want one for piece of mind! Any Mac users got a recommendation. I have used the AVG Grisoft paid version for last 5 years and it is excellent on my Windows laptop 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Avira is different to AVG Smile

Internet Security will have a firewall as well as antivirus.

Do a search on Amazon or Tesco.com as they often have good deals on Kaspersky Smile Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Tim, x5pea is correct in his comment.

I am also a Mac user, which is really a variant of UNIX/BSD, and unless you are running a virtual windows or SAMBA environment the way the Kernel protects memory, unlike windows, virus' typically wont be allocated memory to run. -----------------------------------------------------------------

I have an iMac. Never had a problem and no need for virus checker. It's Windows that's the problem. For my 3 office laptops, I use F-Secure. It is brilliant and does not slow the PC's down. Someone put a portable USB drive in my Netbook last week without permission at a conference and F-Secure caught and dealt with a virus immediately. If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

Using AVG now for 4 years.

Never had any problem.

Doesn't slow down the computer to much and it's free.
