Hill descent

Finally got the Mrs to drive the Rangey today and all went well!
One problem..took her Grandad out for a meal and used the acess hight switch to lower the car so he could get in...must have hit the HILL DESCENT button by accident!
And so there we were going along nicely for a mile or so and then we went down a big hill (on't road) and the car started braking and slowing down..ahh shiX back to square one!!!!
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Or am I just a Censored idiot? 19.1 mpg..who gives a fluck?

Doesn't HDC only work whilst in 1st? If HDC is on and you accelerate so that the gearbox changes up, HDC turns off... Confused

HDC doesnt engage till you come off all the pedals neways. Im pretty sure it wouldnt disengage just because you went up a gear. Infact im sure i came down suicide hill at tong in the wrong gear with HDC on. It still engaged but the speed was tooo fast Laughing .

Ill check the manual next time in the car and remember!

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

HILL DESCENT CONTROL

Hill Descent Control (HDC) operates in conjunction with the anti-lock braking system to provide greater control in off-road situations particularly when descending severe gradients.

HDC is fully functional and should only be used in first and reverse gears in HIGH range and all gears in LOW range.

HDC is fully functional and should only be used in D, R and CommandShift 1 in HIGH range and in D, R and all CommandShift gears in LOW range. When in D, the vehicle will automatically select the most appropriate gear. The vehicle should not be driven with the HDC active in N neutral.

Note: Some of the Terrain Response program/ range combinations will activate HDC automatically.

HELP!

I tried HDC out this afternoon in the very steep parking garage.
The car slowed down alright , but each time when the brake was automatically aplyed by the system, a scrapy sound was heard... Crying or Very sad
Brakes where checked by LR 2 weeks ago.
At that moment the brake pads in the back were 500 km old, in the front still 60% left.

Is this normal? Should it be soundless? Or the typical ABS tapping sound?

The brakes at normal use are soundless.

Don't worry - that noise is entirely normal - although I know how unpleasant it is. It is one of the reasons why HDC is only used in fairly extreme situations as it can "grate" on your head as it sounds like its grating on everything else. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Don't you get a full rundown from your salesman on all of the features (Terrain response, hi/lo, HDC, PDS etc. and a demo on how to use them before you take delivery of the car? I'm always amazed when I see these posts that people buy a 4x4 and have not been trained on the features, at the very least a 1 time demo? PJPR
