Thats what i thought, had some paintwork done and in the sun it looks a different colour, not as dark as the original paint, not as shiny either. |

I could understand if it was the opposite e.g new paintwork was darker and more shiny than the old.

Agree with mcalia, I had some work done and in the new paint the metallic fleck is much more obvious.

Yup, it doesn't matter whether an indy or main dealer, if the painter doesn't take care it's easy to get shades wrong. Not all Java will be exactly the same despite the same paint code, they have to match paint cards to the existing paint. |

It wasnt a LR bodyshop, in the sun the new paint looks slightly grey next to the original paint, i don't know much about paint but do know it can be polished to make it look shinier but doubt this will make it look the same colour as the rest of the paint. On a normal dull day you cant really see it, had the car back today but as it was very dull day it wasnt noticeable. |

My point regarding an indy or main dealer is that you can be 99% sure the main dealer will use the Java Black paint where a indy may use a 'close' looking alternative colour based on cost. That's not saying indys are no good, just a general point and observation based on assumptions.

I had my car resprayed in parts - buckingham blue - and had a long chat with the repair shop about it at the time. Like Leo said, they warned me that they'd need to colour match adjacent panels as sun does bleach colour out and even though they will use new paint from land rover parts list it may look different to the 1 year old panel beside it. So they blended the colour in (somehow) and I can't tell the difference between repainted and original panels and am a happy bunny. Might be something similar in your case where the paint is technically the same, but the age of the older black has lightened it slightly and it wasn't blended into adjacent panels properly so you see it quite obviously. Hope this helps. Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black

Friend of mine works in a bodyshop and sometimes when I have popped in we'll talk about a job he is on. I beleive unless mixed at the same time as the original you will always get differences and this is why they'll 'blow' a panel in (that and weathering). i.e. if they do a door they fade the paint across say the rear door and the front wing as the eye cannot detect the change so easily. If you do just the door the eye is assisted in noticing change by the panel edge lines. As i understand it then the lacquer layer(s) also make a real difference to the actual finish also..... |

Maw, after speaking to the body shop manager yesterday thats pretty much what they did, like you said they blend the new paint in with the original paint so its more difficult to notice, as i mentioned at the start the new paint is not as shiny as the original so im hoping that its just needing the laquer polished up properly. |
