It says that the orientation of the screen can be changed from which way you are heading (with a small compass icon showing North) to North facing upwards on the screen.

If you are pointing north at the time you probably won't see any change '08 RRS TDV8

You will only see the difference when moving - with the screen with North up, then the map will move across the screen in the same compass direction as the car moves along the road. If you have "Heading up" the map will move from the top of the screen to the bottom and junctions etc are orientated so that what you see on the map is the same layout as you see out of the windscreen. Marine Radars and Electronic Chart Display systems have the same interswitchablity of modes as well. I prefer to have the RRS Nav screen set to Heading up mode and onboard I insist on one of the 4 radar displays also to be run in this mode at night and in fog.

Thanks for the explanation Tim, luckily, as a commercial pilot, I understand the theory of North up or heading up.

Thanks Shmoo......I can just see it now, a replacement screen with all the attendant risk of trim damage....maybe heading up is OK.... Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
