Just to be clear here Gary. On the Friday, you saw the car and told them that, yes, you wanted to buy it if they sorted out the things you weren't happy with? If that's the case then my view is that they have a case to keep the original holding deposit ie the £500. It's not generous of them though and, bearing in mind that internet forums like this will post all this stuff, not good for business either. But they definitely have a case to keep it.

I was once selling a Boxster. A nice couple came down, I took them both on a test drive, gave them tea and biscuits, and they agreed to buy the car, giving me a £300 deposit. I turned away two potential sellers before they called me three days later to say that they'd changed their minds and didn't want the car. Did I give them their deposit back? No I didn't. The car eventually sold for £1000 less.

So I think there are still two sides here before we continue to hang the dealer...

cheers lads for all your feedback, i contacted trading standards and even though I never signed anything they said there is such thing as a verbal contact, but I am going to pursue this.

One good thing is boys whilst all this was going on Stratstone Land Rover inBury contacted me and I have bought a brand new HSE V6 Santorini Black, with hybrid tv, privacy, 20' alloys, ebony leather with white stitching I picked it up on Saturday it is absolutely mega. And I get a fantastic deal from them. But I am still going to pursue the above matter.

Cheers
