Great thread , i've been pondering wot to do with my in car entertainment ! my 2005 SE has no sat nav but HK sound system, after months of reading threads and internet searches i've hopefully come up with a solution.

I wanted to keep all original sounds working so with any luck this should work !!

Gona use a pioneer avic f500bt touch screen portable sat nav which has sat nav, ipod av in and audio out. I want to put it where the original sat nav screen went. This means modification of the dash and some hard wireing to do ! Hopefully the pioneer can be used through the existing stereo via aux on main head unit.

Any comments would be appreciated and i'll post pics as its done !!!

Ok, gents, I have everything ready ..
Kenwood double DIN unit, TV module, 2 cameras (front and rear and Parrot bluetooth.
Gonna book tomorrow morning for next week, I'll keep you updated with infos and of course pics.

Here I am again, with a little problem.
While opening the dashboard, the guy found the cables to be brougth to the boot of the car along with the original radio.

HE ALSO FOUND AN OPTICAL CABLE.
He says that by disconnecting this cable the OEM monitor is on but does not work, so apparently it is to be brought to the boot also.

He says also he does not know how to extend this cable from the dashboard to the boot.

Any suggestion?

In the meanwhile the installing process is stuck because of this doubt..

You have OEM nav above the radio?

The optical is called MOST, its an IN and OUT which is linked from radio, screen, amp. remove one without linking it and nothing will work. Let me have a look as I do remember having a link and a 3m (roughly) extension.

Yes, I have the OEM navi in the main screen, with also all the infos on terrain response and compass.
The guy doing the work says we need 10 meters of optic cable (5 from the dash to the boot and 5 in the opposite way...?? )to bring the OEM radio unit connected in the very back of the boot, on the roght hand side.

He also says this should be 2.5 mm diameter .

I have seen some of them on the bay; please have a look at object eBay Item No. 400029650291 .
Do you thinks this will work?
It is 5 mm wide, however..

ok this is how it works.

if you're changing your head unit as you have said you are then you put a link (termination) there.

you will obviously need to remove the amp from under the seat so the extension goes from there to the OEM head unit.

remember, MOST is a bit loop between components nothing else.

So the only chance to have a better audio system is to keep the old one in the trunk and put a new one up front?

I've seen a new digital media center from Alpine (iXA-W404R) and I wonder if this can do the job without keeping the old unit.

You got " i " button on the blinker stalk i.e. left side of steering wheel?

If you answer yes then you have no alternative as you will lose info on the instrumentation cluster 'unless' LR has changed something recently.

I suppose you mean the button that when pressed displays all the trip computer information on dash. then remove the head unit from the car, make sure everything else is plugged back in and turn the ignition on and go through the display and see whats missing.

Had the work done.
I have the new 2DIN unit in the dash and the OEM unit connected in the boot with an optic cable.
Everithing works perfectly., including the two cameras (front and rear).

The "i" button still works perfectly and displays all the infos as before.

No troubles for the Info display.. apart from the fact there is a main grammar mistake in the software, provided is must be written IMPOSTAZIONI and not INPOSTAZIONI in Italian .. and this is something should never happen when you buy a 70k euros car...
