£4k to fix Shocked That seems a bit steep. I was a diesel fitter when I first left school and we used to put a gallon of petrol in with the diesel to stop it freezing up in winter (it used to be cold in winter before global warming!). This never did the vehicles any harm and even though modern cars are more electrically sensitive it's still the same fuel systems.

I did this on an audi a4 TDI, filled it to the brim with petrol. Just drained it off and refilled with diesel. I even used (and am still using 2 years later) the 'dirty' fuel in my lawn mower. Smokes a bit on start up but fine once running.

I don't understand why the fuel pump would need to be replaced? Is this, just in case it breaks at some stage because it's had petrol in??? Tosh.

If it were me i'd have drained and refilled to see what happened.

Incidentally, this is much worse to do the other way round (diesel into a petrol). Censored the cats i believe (so to speak).

£4k is mad Shocked Shocked

Its normal land rover price to perform all of this...

1 . Referring to the relevant section in the workshop manual, drain the fuel tank.
2 . Remove the fuel tank assembly.
3 . Remove pump/sender module and invert to drain excess fuel.
4 . Remove all traces of residual fuel within the tank using clean absorbent cloth/paper.
5 . Clean and flush all low pressure pipes.
6 . Renew the fuel filter.
7 . Renew the high pressure fuel pump.
8 . Renew all high pressure fuel pipes.
9 . Renew the diverter pipe and both fuel rails.
10 . Renew all six fuel injectors
11 . Reassemble pump/sender module to fuel tank and install to vehicle
12 . The tank must be filled with clean diesel fuel
13 . Road test vehicle for at least ten miles, checking for normal engine operation and no stored diagnostic trouble codes are logged.
14 . Return vehicle to customer. WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

Its a nightmare, i did the same thing to my Golf, managed to drive it home with it starting to pink a bit, realised the problem, drained out the petrol refulled with diesel, and the car was fine, i have since covered 30000 more miles since doing it and have had no problems.
Top gear did a feature on it some time back, where they fuelled a petrol car with diesel and vice versa, they ran both cars through a full tank of fuel, all be it a little perfomance effecting, but neither car suffered any ill effects.
I think it is a bit of a garage scam..... the new fuel pump is just ridiculas.
Drain the fuel, refill with Diesel if it runs ok then its happy days, if not you have only lost the price of a bit of diesel. Very Happy

I have no idea how Land Rover justify all that work! Are you sure you told them petrol and not "sulphuric acid" by mistake???

A) what possible damage could petrol do to the pipes? Petrol will mix in with diesel as soon as it's ran through the pipes and clear in moments.

B) How do landrovers manage in countrys where the fuel quality is Censored and mixed with allsorts of other flammables? Are they saying it should cost you 4k at every fill. Rubbish.

They justify these "precautionary" measures by saying this could cause x,y and z. It never does but because it did once they justify having your pants down.

If these are land rovers recommendations then they should be wearing a mask. Rolling Eyes Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY

Get the feeling many people see a RRS and think "Loads of Money" which leads them to take the p++S or approach you as a registered charity!
