Quite right - I was about to reply to Tim's post but came across your reply. I had a 4.4 for 3 years and it was an excellent engine. Jaguar derived as you point out. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again. Far from being a "lot slower" than the S/C it wasn't too far away - only 1 second 0-60mph and 10mph less top speed. Anyone been 140mph in their RRS? Thought not. 130mph is quite adequate thank you. I averaged about 18mpg over the 3 years. It's worth considering if you come across one. Still very prevalent outside UK. ANT Range Rover Evoque 5 door on order. 2006Java/Alpaca/4.4HSE/PTIS/Tracker/pp/Tasmods/Black side repeaters/Custom exhaust (gone but not forgotten!) Land Rover Defender 110 CSW 200 TDi blue (Offroad prep'ed). Citroen C4 Grand Picasso Aston Martin DB9 Tungsten Silver Another Citroen C4 Grand Picasso (Christinemobile) 1990 Mini Cooper SE - classic! (now sold) New addition - 1972 Triumph Stag Pimento Red |

G4 back in 2006 used 4.4 engines in all the cars I believe... Think that might say something |

Guys, is it not fair to say though that the 4.4V8 lacks a bit in the mid range when compared to the S/C and the TDV8? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award

Though I've only been driving my 4.4 V8 for a very short while, its good to hear such votes of confidence for the non S/C petrol! I personally haven't noticed any lack mid-range but then my local dealer did a load of software upgrades during a service last week, including to the power train and engine ecu so that may have changed something mid-range - before the service, I only drove it about 20 miles so it's hard to say!

Do the RRS and FFRR share the exact same motor re: 4.4 V8 ? |

Going on the above they do now - when launched FFRR used 2 BMW engines - the TD6, straight 6 3.0litre TD and the V8 was their 4.4litre. From 2007 (IIRC) FFRR got TDv8 and Jaguar 4.4V8. There is no 4.4V8 available in the UK any longer, it's available in USA and other markets where there is no Euro spec low sulphur diesel that is required for the TDv8

Yes - since 2006 model year (for FFRR that started around May/June 2005). Prior to that it was a BMW 4.4 V8 engine and 5-speed transmission. Current (Jaguar) V8 4.4 has a much better ZF 6-speed gearbox |
