More MPG in Sport mode with TDV6?

Hi. I've been getting a regular 28 mpg from my TDV6 RRS MY09 (4 months old).

I thought I'd stick it in Sport mode for a while to see what the difference in performance and mpg would be.

The performance is MUCH better. And after seven days, I've regularly been achieving 29.5 mpg from my 80 mile round trip to work .... which used to return 28 mpg.

Also, come to think of it, why wouldn't you always put it in Sport mode. If there was a button called "Make car slower" you wouldn't press it would you? I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

As sport mode locks out top and holds on to revs this surprises me

I have considered that I might have been driving it too carfully before (although I'm no slow coach). Maybe my light use of the throttle has been counter-productive? I dunno.

I will keep it in Sport for a while now and see if it stays that way. I've been mad for flipping years, absolutely years, over the edge for yonks.

Sorry to throw an 'fly in the ointment' but dont believe the mpg reading in the car.....you have to brim the tank every time you fill up and manually work out the mpg from the odometer reading to get the true mpg.

Car manufacturers all have fuel indicators that deliberately over estimate mpg to make you feel better in between visits to the petrol station Rolling Eyes

If you drive the car in commandshift manual/ sequential shift mode you will get even better mpg ............................ but then what is the point of having an auto box if you are going to move the shifter and not leave it to the computer! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
