Well just bought the new Talex GPS Speed Detector ( http://www.talex.co.uk/ ) and I want to hardwire it.

I actually bought it in Halfords for £58.71, over half the website price and 3 year subscription only £59.

It seems to locate best on top right front corner of the dash without any fixings, so wanted to run the wire down the side, thought of connecting to the footwell light but cannot see if there is a permanent 12 volts there.

BTW the detector seems to work okay, picked up all fixed and possible mobile detector sites that I passed okay.

I just got a Roadpilot microGo from Halfords, it is powered by a mini usb lead with a cig light attachment

Looked at running it via a long mini usb lead (same lead to use it to connect to my PC), connected to a cig lighter converter, that showed the correct output as on the actual OEM lead.

As soon as i switched the ignition on the MicroGo started to buzz like it was going to blow up

I now decided to buy a cig lighter extension, splice that in instead of plugging it in and use the actual OEM lead to power it so i don't blown it or my self up

The mircoGo displays your speed as a default setting, then when approaching a camera it starts to beep if your going too fast, displaying your current speed, the actual speed limit in a circle and a decreasing bar, showing how far from the camera you are

Also changes the distance when on motorways to take into account for the extra speed.

All in all, for what it does, I am very happy with it, the power lead is a little bit short for my FL2, (section between the seats is alot lower in mine), but in the RRS TDV8 i had last week on loan, the lead was a perfect length and the warnings were very welcome

So, like the Talex unit it doesn't display the speed limit until you are in a detection zone, hmm maybe I will keep the Talex after all, although the MicroGo does have a neat looking display.

Just need to find out where to connect to a 12 volt supply around the dash area as the cigarette lighter adapter looks so messy, need an auxiliary socket in the front dash area somewhere.  https://www.plus.net/refer.php?strReferral...d093cba6a7

re: location of power... i cheated and pulled a switched live through from my NAV.TV unit. Connected this up a new cigarette lighter and hid it behind the panel holding the light switch. Loads of space behind this panel, plus its then close to my final destination on bottom right hand corner of windscreen.. it's a fairly tight squeeze to pull the mini-usb through, but with a bit of perseverance you'll be fine.

ps. don't be scared to pull quite hard on the switch panel... a few of the metal clips might spring off but these will easily clip back in. RRS First Edition S/C, Vesuvius Orange, Rear Entertainment, Alpine TUE-T200DV, Stormer Alloys. (+ 19" MTR's for playing in the snow!)

not quite... power for nav unit is pulled in from rear. A pain, but part of a second project to install a second battery. Easiest place to pull a new power feed in the front is from the existing cig lighter. RRS First Edition S/C, Vesuvius Orange, Rear Entertainment, Alpine TUE-T200DV, Stormer Alloys. (+ 19" MTR's for playing in the snow!)
