It means that your fuel filter has got too much water in it and wherever you last filled up has possibly been "diluting" their diesel with water - might even be condensation or a water leak into their storage tanks. Get it into the dealer ASAP otherwise you will damage the engine. You may also need to have your tank completely drained and the fuel lines cleaned - this is nearly as bad as putting petrol into a diesel. My sister had this happen to a Peugeot years ago - the dealer reckoned it had been water that had come out of the diesel over the six years of the car's life and did it for free. A couple of weeks later they contacted her to ask for her fuel bills and where did she buy her diesel because they had had a whole load of cars that had fuelled up at the local supermarket and arranged for a visit from the local trading standards officers. They found found that the supermarket had been delivering diesel/ water mixtures and the delivery truck drivers had been working a scam with them............................... supermarket filling station had to be closed, tanks drained, lines drained and they had to pay huge compensation to everybody who could prove they had suffered damage - some folks had had to have new engines fitted! It has happened a few times in the UK.

Thanks Tim, I will contact the service garage immediately. It seems I picked up some bad diesel last time. Russian fuel is known for bad quality but I always go to BP and thought I am relatively safe You cant trsut anybody nowadays. But at least I know who to sue if the car really got damaged Chris

If I recall correctly, I believe there is also an additive that you can add to your fuel tank when you refill that 'helps' combat any contaminated diesel.... |

it is now fact. I went to the service place to do the inspection. They had to change the fuel filter which was full with water, clean the tank, pipes and the injection system. The tank did not only contain water but also lots of other dirt they say Luckily the car has sensors to measure the degree of filter polution before something really bad happens to the engine.

The filter can be drained of water without going to the dealer - but I haven't had the need to do it myself (and hope I never have to!). If someone is subscribed to GTR, maybe they can post the relevant pages here...... |
