Mines just flashed up "water in fuel" this afternoon after a few ford/flood crossings.

Would it most likely be the sensor shorting due to bring submerged? RRS gone

How deep was the water? I'd be amazed if wading would cause this but then we are talking about the RRS! Rolling with laughter 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Mine does this after every fording or deep puddle - checked the fuel filter, but no water drained out. Dealer can't find anything wrong. I suspect the wiring harness to the sensor, as it looks a little "crimped", will ask at next service.

The sensor and filter are located next to the rear axle so not very high at all!

Australia 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Fuji White

I think that you will find it on the right hand side of the vehicle under a cover plate to the rear of the engine, its accessed from under the car. OOps just noticed that yours is a V8, not sure about that, I retract my statement.
