Denmark 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Problem: Land Rover denied brembo upgrade

Hi RRS lovers, I need a bit of advice....

I'm a happy owner of a Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE MY07 which has covered 38000 happy km (although with a lot of visits at the dealership for repairs).

Mine came with standard HSE brakes, and i wanted to upgrade the breaking system to brembos. So I got a set (calipers, discs, sensors, backplats both front and back) from ebay, and had my mechanic change the lot. A fairly easy job, direct swap. I had him do a breaktest, and everything worked perfectly.

I Denmark (where I live) any changes to brakes, enigine etc. must get approved by the authorities, so I went to the regional testing lab (who makes the approval) They would approve the modification, but they needed a confirmation from Land Rover saying that the brakes was allowed on the car. Through the danish importer I asked for the approval, this is the responce I got;

Hello XXX,

I have asked one department in engineering and the fitment cannot be approved because it is not available as an approved accessory kit. So we cannot sanction the action by the customer.

The sports pack upgrade is only available on initial vehicle order from the factory. This pack consists of the brake upgrade, 20inch wheels and dynamic response system has to be fitted. Plus CCF change

Regards

YYY

So, now I have to put my old break system back on the car (which is no near as good as the brembos) in order to have the car road legal. I'm very frustrated about the whole deal, but I cant se any way around it. Does anybody have an idea? I have seen forum members make these modifications, what have you done?

If i dont succed, I have a set of complete brembos very cheep for sale Very Happy

Best, Henrik

By the way, thanks for a great forum!

Sorry to hear about your dilema.

If you are forced to refit the original brakes I'd be interested in taking the other ones off you.
Reagrds,
Kevin.

Sorry to hear that.

Seems sensible that if someone has a professonal job done upgrading their brakes it will make the car safer.

I know living here that there are far too many old pick-ups grinding worn pads onto discs Shocked Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Our MY07 HSE came with Brembo brakes as standard but not Dynamic Response or 20" wheels so LR do have an official "Brembo only" spec, albeit possibly a UK spec.

What do they fit on current HSEs in Denmark?? Cheers

Denmark 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Hi, again

Thanks for the replies.

I spoke to the Danish Importer once again, they say that Land Rover are very affraid to take any product responisiblity on aftermounted parts, even though they are OEM parts mounted by LR dealerships.

My local dealership will try to get me some documentation for the Brake calipers and discs (part numbers, measurements etc.). My hope is then to hold this information together with official model approvel (which contains vehicles with brembos) and present it to the testing lab.

As you mention simonsi, several TDV6 comes with brembo upgrades so I don't understand all the "rumble". I Denmark you can either choose between the standard breaks that comes with the HSE, or buy a "dynamic-pack" which has brembos, dynamic response and adaptive headlights (I think its the same package you can get in the UK). But my dealership also has a TDV6 HSE with only brembos mounted from the factory.

I will try to get the parts approved, otherwise I will get back to you Kevin.

Regards

Henrik

PS. The brembos are so nice - it really improves the driving experience.

This is the standard HSE spec in the UK for the TDV6, no 20" wheels or Dynamic Response, this may be key for your lab as it shows that LR fit only the same parts as you have fitted as a standard specification... Cheers

Upto 7a chassis in the UK (2007my) you had to purchase a 'Dynamic Pack' to gain Brembo's. This pack also came with 20" wheels, Adaptive Headlamps, Dynamic Response and a Cooler Box.

From 7a chassis in the UK Brembo's AND Dynamic Response (not to be confused with Dynamic Pack) became standard on HSE spec.

It would seem that it is not possible to have a factory specifiied vehicle without both regardless of pre or post 2007my (if the Dynamic pack was purchased on a pre-07my). If it's got Brembo's then it will have DR, or if it's pre 2007 then the only way would be the Dynamic Pack.

This is a topic that seems to cause a fair bit of confusion.

Looks like my response has been edited slightly Rupert Whistle

I do pride myself on my clarity of communication........ clear as mud! Very Happy

Did I mention that if you ordered the DP then you'd get DR and AHL in addition to the Brembo's, however at 7a the DP was deleted and the DR and Brembo's was then set as standard spec on HSE, but not SE or S. Yawn Yawn

MO its a bit different in Denmark and Germany - if you don't get the modification into your cars papers by the authorities you will lose your insurance cover for the car and the police is allowed to confiscate the car ..... Shocked Confused

Not just Germany etc, most insurances look to insure a defined risk, in most territories (maybe even Arizona???), modifying the car without informing the insurance Co can invalidate cover... Cheers

Even changing your wheels from what came as standard from the showroom, can in some cases invalidate the insurance. No matter if they are genuine LR wheels or not Exclamation
