Replacement stereo

Hi

It's the first time I am posting on here so please bare with me. I find the info on here really helpful. Great job.

My brother recently purchased a RRS HSE with no stereo/navigation system so we are looking at installing a stereo/navi system. Would you recommend an original RRS system to be installed? I f yes then where would be the best place to get hold of one or is it dealer only? Or if we install an aftermarket system like a Pioneer double din or maybe even Kenwood with the built in Navi, Bluetooth, ipod etc etc, is there a facia panel available and also the wiring loom adaptor kit? I believe all the amps are in the boot area.

What can you advise?

Thanks and I hope I am making sense. Idris

you would get a more functional (sat/TV/reversing camera etc) aftermarket satnav than the OEM (if they can be retro fitted) Thumbs Up

Welcome along Idris Thumbs Up

Are you sure it was an HSE? The HSE models have always had Satnav at standard, even from back in 05. It may not have had the premium stereo though, with the Logic 7 amps etc.

Thanks Shmoogle and npinks

The RRS is a HSE and it did have the original eqipment fitted but it was all removed by the previous owner. Why, I have no idea. A lot of work has been done to the car. Kahn products and body styling have been used to modify the vehicle.

I know that the aftermarket unit will have extra features. The kit we are looking at is the Kenwood DNX-8220BT or the Pioneer AVIC-F900BT. They are both touch screen, with extra outputs and inputs, Bluetooth, USB/ipod feature, SD Ram card slot etc etc.

It's looking like the Kenwood unit may be the one. I will be installing it myself. When all is added I will post pics and info as to how and what was needed to be done. Hopefully a wiring loom is available if not the I think I'll have to use some crossovers for the speakers and make a facia panel to fit. Idris

I haven't had a chance to have a look yet but from what I hear it's the same as the Vogue or the X5 and everything is in the boot. You may be right and they could be under the seat. Will let you know what I find and where. Idris

the BEST thing to do is get the RRS sat/nav radio. You truely need the oem radio. The radio is linked to the alarm system and many other componets, without the an oem radio the CAN-bus system or equiv is not properly working. The amp is under the seat on the right hand side.

If you do not believe me ask the dealer.

if you did not have your main Audi head unit in, it would take out the entire MOST Bus. Thats the fibre optic bus that interconnects absolutely all the infotainment stuff. you would have no Audio Amplifier, Sat Nav, Telephone, TV, LCD display Etc Etc. It cannot be by passed as the Integrated Head Unit as it is called, acts as the gateway between the MOST and the CAN, it also provides all the security communications and validation for the rest of the systems.

Italy 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Hallo folks, I have just registered to this interesting forum.

I perfectly know that, before making any question, it is polite to use the search function to find an answer to our doubts.
I actually tried and this seems to be the most suitable thread.

I am just buying a used 2006 RR Sport 2700 TDV6 HSE, equipped with OEM navigation system and harman kardon audio.

My intention is to swap it with a double din (Kenwood) unit including navi, dvd, divx, tv, etc.
The question is : Is this technically possible, or the system has conflicts?
If positive, will the main monitor (on the very top of the dashboard) keep on working for the additional infos e.g. terrain response, taking for granted that I will lose navi, telephone and bluetooth?
I will obviously use the monitor of the new radio to display all the TV and navi infos, without using the Range Rover monitor

As for the RRS without OEM navi, do they use anyway the main screen (if present) for the terrain response?
Basically, which are the infos included in the monitor of all the RRS versions?

I hope you can solve the problem, since I am going to buy the new unit but, obviously, I would like to buy something which is not useless.

Thanks in advance for your answer, which will be much appreciated.
Ciao from Italy.

You have to keep the OEM radio in the car. Period

Thanks for your answer.
Does it mean that I can connect the new unit in the front dash and keep the OEM unit connected somewhere else in the car, eg hidden?
Is it technically feasible?
Is it needed to let all the infos system of the car work?

Yes, the head unit is a vital piece of kit. You have keep it "in circuit" as it were. Not sure whether the wiring looms would let you move it somewhere else so you could fit your Kenwood head unit in Confused

Personally, not sure it's worth the effort.
