Engine Warning Light - Again

Hi there.

Now I know that there have been several discussions about this issue and I have read most (I think) of them with various suggestions from software upgrade to soft resets being the cure.

However, I have an ongoing problem that does not appear to be solved by any of these. My dealer has performed a software upgrade (they say) but once I hit the motorway and get anywhere near (legal) cruise speeds the light comes on again and the power is reduced, with both the amber engine warning light coming on and the message "reduced engine performance" appearing in the message window.

Any ideas or suggestions very welcome as my nearest dealer is about an hour away each time I have to go back !!

Cheers

Did they check the MAF sensor? I can see how a bad sensor could cause the symptoms you are experiencing when you reach a certain speed. It could be a variety of things, though. Sad

MAF sensor sounds better than valves - that sounds very scary and expensive !!!

I think VA is referring to the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valves, there are 2 of them, one for each bank of cylinders. These do seem to give problems such as you are having, and sometimes affect low speed driveability. Get your dealer to check these out, and replace them if faulty.(One of mine needed replacing at only 19000 miles). RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

sjdavies, what engine and model year is your Sport? S/C have had issues of reduced engine power under load in some 06s and 07s. There was a TSB issued about it - something about an auxiliary coolant pump for the supercharger being miswired at the factory - and I can try locating a copy, if that's your engine.

MY SC is an 05 with the 4.4V8 engine, so thankfully not the pump issue.

Thanks for all your other thoughts guys, I will def get the dealer to check the exhaust valves and the MAF sensors.

Cheers

sjdavies your RRS icon/profile indicates that you have a TDV6 HSE Confused ........on a S/C I doubt it will be the EGR valves then, (may not even have any on that engine). RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i
