im wanting to use red diesel in range rover sport around my farm land how will this affect the running of my car??? anyone know?

Word of warning....if you get stopped by Customs and they find a single drop of red diesel in your RRSport...then you will be prosecuted, fined and maybe even lose the car in the end.....dont do it

You will also have your car impounded during the course of the investigation.....dont be such a tight git and buy diesel the legal way like the rest of us

With red diesel it would stain the fuel filters etc and if you ever use the car on the road again and get pulled over you could have a lot of explaining to do even if the car has normal fuel in it.

i believe the only thing different is the dye thats added

I believe it's exactly the same fuel as you'd get from a pump, so technically there's no reason why you couldn't use it.... but if you want to take that risk with HMCE then knock yourself out

You are obviously, like my bro-in-law, one of the nations poor farmers. An RRS for use as a farm truck, about as bad as my outlaw ordering an R8.

Anyrode, red diesel wont have an effect, cos it's the same as white but errrrr, red!!!

I used to use ATF as an injector cleaner in my old 300tdi disco,
after a service one of my neighbours had a visit from HM C+E , they made a hell of a mess looking around the house /shed /garage. the elderly neighbour has a petrol toyota corolla , the officers got very snotty telling him he must have hid the disco and his stash of red diesel.

It turns out a well meaning mechanic had seen the red staining on the filter and phoned the customs.
The garage had an incorrect address for me which is why I didnt get the knock.

I left the disco in the garage and went out in the wifes car., never heard another word.

BTW, if you are thinking of dying or bleaching the red diesel there is a chemical marker which is unaffected by the bleaching . C+E can still tell!

I'm afraid white diesel is the only safe way.

We had a local checkpoint (west mids) recently , looking for stolen vehicles , mot and road tax evaders..etc.
The biggest offence was red diesel!!!

I think there is a chemical maker that either shows up when they run it through their analysis, probably on a Gas Chromatograph or similar, (Im a geeky chemist).

I dont think removing the dye is enough. I heard of people using hydrogen peroxide to bleech the red dye out then circulating with activate carbon to absorb it, and then filtering it through fine 10 micron filters.
A lot of hard work and the equipment would mean youd lay out cash before you even got a drop.

Besides all that, ive heard that the modern tdv6 and tdv8 engine have some kind of fuel sampling sensors or something like that, and the engine will shut down if less than adequate quality fuel is used, i suspect that this mean red diesel.

I have a friend who owns an access machine business and they can be lagally ran on red diesel. They do pump out more smoke and the diesel is higher in sulphur content, so is isnt just red dye in there, i think its less intensely refined/finished.

You could always use Bio-diesel (to some extent).....currently 93p a litre around reading. I think the issue is the mix though on the TDV6/8 engines. That price is based on 100%. L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

Red diesel is not the same as white diesel....just imagine the lowest grade unleaded petrol you can buy on a mexican forecourt and then you get the picture

My best mate tried to run his van on crisp and dry. It worked too for a while, then all of a sudden it didnt work. Says it all really.

do you think it could have been the properties of the "crisp and dry" as it says it doesn't cling to the chips like normal oil does

My brother in law works in quarries and goes through thousands of gallons of Red.

Apart from the colour, red has a higher sulphur content............end result more power!

I have a "friend" who once tried red in a lowly 1.9 tdi VW Bora. Massive difference in performance.

It's perfectly legal to put in your car as long as your car doesn't go on the road. Believe it's a £500 fine for a first offence plus towing and storage costs while they have your car.

Personally I wouldn't risk it.... Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame!
