Is it working, have you given-up, are the pubs busier or quieter, what about restaurants, any problems at work, was it a good idea or a bad idea, is it right or wrong, for or against, how's it affected YOU? MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs |

Best thing that happened, I can now go to a resturant and enjoy my food without the awful reek of people puffing their fags

as a non smoker no problem, but as a chronic asthmatic it means i can now go to a restaurant or pub and not be poorly for days after, I have not been able to go out very often but, on the other side of the coin, it now means that when we do go out, E is a smoker, he leaves the table for 15 mins or so, it is a conversation stopper. I can see a slight down turn in couples going out, if the lady has to sit at a table in a place she does not know. It does not bother me at all and, not to come home stinking of ciggies has to be a pluss

I tend to agree with Envoy on the basis that this government is taking away our basic freedoms ever so slowly. Today Smoking, tomorrow drink, food, travel, cars. Make no mistake the government and it's henchmen want us to be totally reliant on the state and use every excuse from terrorism to health to decrease our civil liberties and increase their control over us. Why do you think we have the biggest CTV coverage in the world and still crime rises? You take away freedom and I think crime will rise - more personal freedom and crime will fall - this is my view but I have no facts to prove it just a feeling. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Up here in Scotland, we've had the ban for a while (we need it, the most unhealthy nation in Europe).

We’ve had the smoking ban here in Ireland for at least two years now I think, if not longer.

All very interesting comments. Like most, I'm a non-smoker and welcomed the ban in public places, like pubs, clubs and restaurants. However, Envoy's point is completely valid about the gradual and inexorable erosion of our civil liberties and freedom of choice. We are becoming a nanny state.
