Guys have any of you also regularly updated your XP or ME from the microsoft website. There are loads of free upgrades and patches available that close quite a few of the ;oopholes in MS systems. You will also get an upgrade of Windows Media Player to WMP11.

Jay, go to download.com and give Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06 a go. Free of charge, works for me. Whilst you're there, you could also try Spybot which is effective and also free of charge. Nothing to lose, may fix your problem. I'm sure Kaine and Shmoogle will have further ideas to follow. Good luck mate! MY12 SDV6 HSE Sumatra/Ebony/Piano/Sidesteps/Privacy/Overfinch Olympus/JLR DRLs |

Jay I use AVG free edition and it did cure some of my problems, ive even installed the professional edition now which you can get on line, providing you can use the computer, failing that maybe you will have to wipe the hard drive and start again

Maw you are a saviour! I have just spent most of the evening trying to fix my father's laptop which, while it will connect to the internet will not open any websites in IE. I tried all the usual Internet options and found that the cookies were set to reject and the privacy/ content to the highest filtering settings but even after resetting I couldn't get IE to download anything. I ran Spybot and it found nothing at all. The only thing I can think of is that he took the laptop to PC World for a health check recently and they have managed to reset something or get a worm/virus or whatever on it. I cheered to read somebody else has a similar problem. I think at the moment I'm going to have to uninstall IE and re-install it by downloading on another computer and copying it to my 8mb USB stick and re-installing that way............................ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it 2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW |

I know this has been discussed before but using Mozilla Firefox as a browser seems to attract far fewer trojans/worms/viruses or nasty wee bugs and problems than when I have run IE. The only time I use IE these days is when I open links from emails in my Hotmail account which automatically open IE. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
