typical insurers very willing to take your money but different matter when it comes to paying out  

NHBC were totally useless when 1st the back of my nextdoor neighbour's house fell off and then my garage side wall started to collapse. The houses had been built buy different subcontracted builders but both had NHBC cover. The only way we got any joy from NHBC was when between us my neighbour and I went to the papers.............. after one issue of a well known national Sunday paper suddenly NHBC changed their minds, it could have had something to do with the X-Rays of both structures that the paper arranged to have taken that suddenly there was no problem in the NHBC paying up. It was OK for me as I was away while the builders were dismantling the garage wall and rebuilding (its an integral garage on the gable end of the house) but the hassles with NHBC couldn't have come at a worse time for my neighbours as he had just had a massive stroke 2 days before the entire north gable and kitchen walls fell out of their house! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

to be honest tim the nhbc along with all the rest ie: zurich : premier etc dont do half the checks they are supposed to do on new build construction for normal 10 year warranty ...and i speak from first hand experience im a registered zurich builder and we have guidelines in which they require construction techniques etc to be carried out

and this is where the cowboy builders manage to cut corners

half the time they dont come out to check as per the program and rely on the local council building control to do all the checks as per building regs
